This will be our last response to this absolute nonsense, because quite frankly we have better things to do than continually engage in petty digs, passive-aggressive posts and unnecessary drama — but there comes a point when enough is enough and a few facts need to be put straight - Unable to comment on their post as we’re blocked!
To “the Club” - We think the post needs correcting, because dressing something up as “supporting local” while taking very obvious digs at another local venue is rather contradictory.
Nobody has ever claimed to have invented Jam Night, and nobody has ever suggested musicians should be told where they can or cannot play. That isn’t the issue, and you know it.
The issue is the decision to suddenly run a Jam Night on a Thursday AND bring in a pizza van on the very same evening that The Cardigan Arms already has an established Thursday Jam Night and regular pizza trader. Call it coincidence, community spirit or “fair competition” if you like — people can make their own minds up.
What’s hilarious is the lecture about “mutual respect” and “lifting the community up rather than pulling others down.” From our experience, you have done very little other than try to tear us down, both personally and as a business. We have had to listen to false stories and accusations being circulated about us and, even worse, comments and allegations being made about members of our staff. So please don’t publicly preach to us about respect and professionalism while behaving very differently towards us away from Facebook.
And as for some of the comments underneath congratulating this post for being “classy”, “professional”, “thoughtfully put” and “community orientated” — they’re hardly surprising. Some of those commenting have made their personal feelings towards us perfectly clear on numerous occasions, so we wouldn’t exactly expect an unbiased opinion.
What is slightly amusing, however, is that some of the very same people have previously expressed remarkably similar opinions about you and your club to the ones they now express about us. Funny how quickly opinions and allegiances can change when there’s a common target.
So forgive us if we don’t take the little round of applause too seriously. There is clearly far more personal history and animosity behind some of these comments than simple concern for “community spirit”.
A collection of people with a personal axe to grind agreeing with each other doesn’t suddenly make a one-sided version of events the truth.
As for blocking people, yes, we decide who interacts with our business page, just as you decide who interacts with yours. Nobody has an automatic right to use somebody else’s business page as their personal debating platform.
There absolutely is room for everyone in Moulton. But “community” and “supporting local” work both ways. Putting the same entertainment and the same type of food offering on the same evening as another village venue and then publicly lecturing that venue about community spirit is rather ironic.
We support local musicians, traders, charities and the people of Moulton week in, week out. We don’t need somebody who has repeatedly criticised us, personally and professionally, to explain to us what supporting a community looks like.
You make a big point in your post about supporting your new local pizza trader and giving them the opportunity to earn a decent living and succeed. But are you being supportive of the local pizza business that has been serving customers at The Cardigan Arms for the last SIX YEARS, by putting another pizza van directly against them on exactly the same Thursday evening? I don’t think so.
They are a local business too. Nonna Lucia’s have worked hard, built up their customer base and supported our pub and this village for six years. Apparently, though, “supporting local traders” only matters when it suits the narrative.
So please don’t lecture us about community spirit while simultaneously trying to compete directly with an established local trader on the very night they have traded for years. Supporting local shouldn’t mean supporting one local business at the expense of another.
Spare us the lectures about professionalism, respect and “pulling others down”. If you want competition, own it. If you dislike us, own that too. But don’t continually take shots at us and our staff and then dress yourself up as the champion of community spirit.
