Windmills is a community focused food, drinks & catering business with a reputation for quality, healthy food and family friendly customer service. We aim to generate funds through our Cafe to invest in young people with learning disabilities. Windmills recruits 16-25 year olds with learning disabilities into their traineeship programmes which have been developed to strengthen life and social skil

ls as well as provide mainstream qualifications and meaningful work experience. We ensure that our trainees take every opportunity to transfer their skills to their home environment increasing their confidence and independence. Sir Ian Wood said, "Today in Scotland we have... young people, not in work, not in education, waking up each morning wondering if their community has any need for them." Many young people with learning disabilities feel exactly like that! Without meaningful employment, volunteering or training opportunities, young people with learning disabilities are likely to suffer isolation, low self esteem and often depression. Windmills provide an exciting and engaging environment which allows communication, socialisation and promotes independent living. For more information about our traineeships or to apply, please contact us.

Hi to all our supporters and friends,
Sorry there has been such a long time to wait for the takeaway menu but it looks like it will be going ahead very soon. We will be in touch again when we have the menu and are ready to launch. We are hopeful this will be very soon.

A final update before the new menu.

Windmills would like to say a very huge thank you to some of our amazing and kind partners in our upcoming Streetfood@Windmills venture.

Calfrey Creative is gifting us our menu design and will be redesigning our website and rebrand. Gemma, the owner, is an absolutely beautiful, kind person and we are so grateful for her generosity and expertise.

Cooper’s Butchers are supplying us with all meats and other goodies. Quality doesn’t come much better so we are delighted to be partnering with them. Laura, the bubbly, clever and kind owner is in this with us and it will be a joint project.

The Woodcutter Bar is also sponsoring this and we will be working with them in creative ways in the future. Christopher Mcgiff, the owner is a fabulous guy with a real big heart for what we are doing, and we are delighted to be teaming up with him and his kind and talented team.

A great friend of Windmills has also offered to help us with the advertising. Suzanne McBride, the owner of Lanarkshire People, is a gem and we love and appreciate her.

North Lanarkshire Council are such an incredible support to all our work and we know their employees will be onboard to help us make this a success.

Finally, (although they don’t know it yet!) we are going to approach our good friends at Motherwell Football Club who always help us and partner with us in everything we have done and we look forward to creative ways of working together with them. MFC are a great club with a huge heart for the community.

However, we know the people who will really make the difference will be our customers who have waited patiently for some sort of return from us. We appreciate you all and we can’t wait to provide you with tasty delicious food again.

This is our Jamie who has also been given the opportunity to work on our Streetfood@Windmills. Jamie is an absolute gentleman and he will be responsible for the home-made calzone, bread and dumplings as well as general cookery.

Please support our takeaway and share with your friends to help Olena, Jamie and Calum. They deserve the best! (And the food will be lovely!)

Jamie’s mum wrote the following words.

Jamie is 22 years old and is a lovely, kind, considerate and caring young man.
He was a healthy baby but unfortunately at 10 months and again at 6 years he suffered from a life changing attack of brain stem encephalitis. This left him on life support and he had to have a tracheostomy inserted to enable him to breathe and a tummy peg in order for him to be fed.
He has, twice, had to come back from total paralysis – learning to move, walk and talk again and he has done this with the utmost determination and courage whilst never feeling sorry for himself. He has been left with some issues but he doesn’t let this keep him down.
He has operations ahead to face but he never complains and faces life with quiet contentment.
He has found a purpose in life at Windmills Café learning new skills, finding new friends whilst being supported and encouraged by an amazing management team.
Jamie, like any other young man, just wants to have a purpose in life and be able to work and earn and this new venture at Windmills will hopefully make this come true for Jamie and the other team
members.

This is Calum. Calum first came to Windmills through a referral by his foster mum. Calum has been volunteering ever since. He has now been given a 6 month’s contract to make a success of Streetfood@Windmills. If this takeaway project becomes viable, Windmills will give Calum a permanent position.

Calum has not had the easiest of lives. He has grown up in care and has been moved from school to school and home to home throughout his young life. Calum is finally settled in foster care with a fantastic and loving family. He is a fully qualified chef and did his training at New College Lanarkshire and his placements at Windmills.

Calum is a quiet guy but he has lots of integrity, he’s a great chef and he’s very reliable. We love him at Windmills and he is part of our family too. Calum will be the chef managing the cooking for Streetfood@Windmills.

Please support our project and support Calum into permanent employment by buying our food and spreading the word. We know that our customers will do this for us because you have big hearts!

Details of menu and other people on project coming soon.

I am Olena from Ukraine. One year ago my 14 year old son and I left Ukraine to get away for a few days. We left with backpacks and that’s all! We left my husband, a doctor, who is working on the front line, assisting in amputations. It is no longer safe for us to return.

I was a qualified accountant in Ukraine but have not been able to get a job in Scotland due to language barriers until Windmills gave me this opportunity. I am managing Streetfood@Windmills. I have 6 months to make a success of this and if I do, I will be given a permanent job. Please support me to make a life in Scotland. My beautiful hometown is destroyed. I also want to see the other people in my team succeed and get jobs.

You can support us by buying our delicious food and sharing and recommending our menu.
