With less than two weeks to go to here are 🎪🐑🤹Reasons to Visit the Glendale Show 2026

There are country shows and then there are those special events where an entire community seems to come together.

For more than 135 years, the Glendale Show has celebrated Northumberland’s countryside, farming heritage, local talent and community spirit. Returning to the Glendale Showfield near Wooler on Saturday 29 August 2026, it promises a packed day of entertainment for visitors of all ages.

Still deciding whether to go? Here are ten reasons to make the Glendale Show part of your August Bank Holiday weekend.

1. Experience a true Northumberland tradition

The Glendale Show is much more than an annual event. It is a celebration of rural life and the people, skills and traditions that make this part of Northumberland so special.

Bringing together farmers, families, local businesses, craftspeople and visitors, the show offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the warmth and community spirit of Glendale and Northumberland

2. Get close to the animals

Animals remain at the heart of the show, with horse and pony classes, donkeys, sheep and dairy goats all taking their place in the rings.

Whether you have a farming background or simply love animals, watching the judging and seeing the care that goes into preparing them is always a highlight. It is also a brilliant way for children to learn more about farming and the countryside.

3. Enjoy a packed programme of entertainment

There will be something happening throughout the showground, including Longton Sheepdogs, The Sheep Show, falconry, Marshalls Heavy Horses and vintage agricultural machinery.

Circus Avago and The Giant Bubble Whisperer will add even more fun to the day, while live music will help create that unmistakable show-day atmosphere.

4. It is a fantastic family day out

From children’s entertainment and circus activities to animals, giant bubbles and the fairground, there will be plenty to keep younger visitors entertained.

Children aged 15 and under can enter free when accompanied by a full-paying adult, making the Glendale Show an affordable opportunity for families to enjoy a full day out together.

5. Dogs 🐶can join the fun too

You don’t have to leave your four-legged family member at home. Dogs are welcome at the show provided they remain on a lead and are kept away from enclosed livestock areas. There will also be a companion dog show, with entries taken on the day, along with a dog agility display and the chance to have a go.

Please remember that only assistance dogs are permitted inside marquees serving or selling food.

6. Discover wonderful local shopping

The Glendale Show is a brilliant place to discover independent businesses, rural producers, makers and craftspeople.
Browse the trade stands and shopping marquee for locally made gifts, clothing, homeware, countryside products and plenty of things you might not find on the high street. Every purchase also helps support the small businesses that contribute so much to the local economy.

7. Sample something delicious

A day at the show would not be complete without something tasty to eat. The Food Marquee will bring together a tempting selection of produce and refreshments, giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy local flavours while supporting food businesses and producers from the surrounding area.

8. Celebrate local skills and creativity

The horticultural and industrial classes showcase an impressive variety of home-grown produce, flowers, baking, preserves, handicrafts and creative work. These displays represent hours of patience, skill and pride and they are an important reminder that the Glendale Show celebrates craftsmanship just as much as stockmanship.

9. Enjoy an atmosphere unlike any other

One of the best things about the Glendale Show is simply wandering around and soaking up the atmosphere. You can watch the rings, catch a display, browse the marquees, enjoy some food, listen to live music and inevitably stop for a chat with someone you know. It is relaxed, welcoming and filled with the sights and sounds of a traditional Northumberland country show.

10. Your visit helps support the countryside community

The Glendale Agricultural Society is a registered charity dedicated to advancing education and skills relating to agriculture and the environment.

Alongside the annual show, the Society delivers its highly successful Children’s Countryside Day, welcoming around 1,600 schoolchildren each year. By attending the Glendale Show, visitors are also helping to support the continuation of rural education, traditions and community events for future generations.
