Base: Sushi rice (Shari) What is Shari?
Shari-su is the seasoned vinegar mix used to flavor sushi rice (shari).
It's made from rice vinegar, sugar, and salt, giving the rice its signature sweet, salty, and tangy balance.
Main ingredient: Usually fish or seafood - like tuna, salmon, Yellowtail, or crab — sometimes raw, sometimes cooked.
Can include vegetables (avocado, cucumber), egg (tamago), or seaweed (nori).
Condiments: Served with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger (gari) for cleansing the palate.
Common Types:
• Nigiri: Hand-pressed rice topped with a slice of fish.
Maki: Rolled sushi with rice and fillings wrapped
in seaweed.
Sashimi: Just sliced raw fish (technically not
sushi, since there's no rice).
