Celebrating Liam Gallagher’s Achievement in Style at Saigon Lotus

This week, Saigon Lotus owner Thi was delighted to present Liam Gallagher with a special gift set of Vietnamese and English spices in recognition of his recent award as a Young Inspiring Community Kindness and Resilience Hero.

As part of this well-deserved recognition, Liam also enjoyed a family celebration hosted by Saigon Lotus, featuring summer rolls, phở, and a selection of authentic Vietnamese street food. In addition, we provided small funds for Liam to purchase bestselling cookery books and recipe collections to further develop his knowledge and support his journey of culinary creativity and exploration as he pursues his dream of becoming a chef and barista.

Liam’s kindness, dedication, hard work, growth mindset and positive contribution to the community make him a wonderful role model, and we are proud to support his aspirations. Thi even get Manchester Finest’s team to interview Liam’s inspiring story when they filmed Saigon Lotus’ story last week.

Meet Ava, our inspiring 12-year-old Youth Ambassador, whose kindness, resilience, and joyful spirit light up our community.

Today, Ava is taking us on a virtual tour of Saigon Lotus — a cosy Vietnamese restaurant and cultural house in Middleton Gardens, Manchester, beautifully inspired by the enchanting lantern-lit streets of Hội An, the UNESCO World Heritage Ancient Town.

Stepping into Saigon Lotus is like taking a journey to the heart of Vietnam, where the warmth of Vietnamese hospitality, authentic cuisine, rich traditions, and the timeless charm of Hội An come together to create a truly unique cultural experience.

Ava loves spending time at Saigon Lotus twice a week volunteering with Saigon Lotus setting up community book reading corner, arts/craft workshop, learning life skills and elevate her public speaking skills. Eva shared:

“Saigon Lotus is the best place to spend time because of its flavourful, traditional Vietnamese food, kid-friendly and offers so many meaningful activities that bring kindness and support to our community.”

More than just a restaurant, Saigon Lotus is a welcoming home where people of all ages can connect, learn about Vietnamese culture, enjoy authentic Vietnamese cuisine, and create meaningful memories together.

Join Ava as she shares why Saigon Lotus holds such a special place in her heart and why it continues to bring people together through food, culture, and community.

Kindness & Resilience Award Hero, Liam Gallagher

Sunday 24th May and Tuesday 26th May was both truly special and heartfelt days at Saigon Lotus as we gathered together to celebrate incredible volunteers and share our journey with Manchester Finest. Both events were proudly featured on Vietnam National Television (VTV4) last week. Liam is amongst our proud volunteers, young ambassadors who quietly and selflessly give their time, energy, and kindness to create positive social impact within Saigon Lotus and across our local community.

We were honoured to welcome Samantha, our dedicated event volunteer who also works at Oldham Council, joining Saigon Lotus founder Thi, alongside volunteers and their families, for a meaningful celebration of community spirit and resilience.

Together, Thi and Samantha proudly presented the Community Kindness & Resilience Awards to young people who have shown kindness, perseverance, a growth mindset, and a genuine commitment to making a positive difference through volunteering and community action.

Amongst these inspiring young people, Liam Gallagher’s journey deeply touched all of us.

Liam was homeschooled until he began college at the age of 16. Like many young people today, he struggled with shyness, social anxiety, and limited opportunities to develop practical life skills — invisible challenges that can quietly hold young people back from believing in themselves and reaching their full potential.

But Liam made a brave decision.

Instead of losing himself in social media or endless gaming, he chose to step outside his comfort zone and give himself a chance to grow. Determined to build confidence and life experience, Liam sent his CV and carefully written covering letter to 12 companies asking for voluntary work experience. Sadly, he received no replies. After repeated silence from companies he researched and sent his CV, he slowly began losing faith that anyone would give him an opportunity.

Then one day, Liam and his dad came into Saigon Lotus for lunch.

During their visit, Liam shared his interest in volunteering. After speaking with him, Thi saw something special in this well mannered, young man and invited him to begin work experience the very next day as a barista and kitchen assistant — starting immediately with real customer service experience interacting with customers face-to-face.

Over the past seven weeks of Liam’s hard work and disciplined show up, we have witnessed an incredible transformation.

Liam has grown into a more confident, self-aware, and capable young person, developing valuable practical life skills while taking important steps towards his dream career as a culinary chef.

Today, we celebrate Liam not only for his hard work, but for his courage — the courage to keep trying, to believe in growth, and to take action to change his own future while making a positive contribution to his local community.

The Kindness & Resilience Award Scheme, which Liam is now proudly part of, reflects Thi’s lifelong passion for empowering young people through education, community action and opportunity, following her 20-year journey as a United Nations nominated Youth Spokesperson for the Sustainable Development Goals since 2006.

At Saigon Lotus, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to shine.

That is why we continue creating voluntary work experience opportunities that help young people build practical skills, resilience, confidence, self-awareness, flexibility and a growth mindset — qualities that prepare them for happier, healthier, and more rewarding futures.

Sometimes, all it takes is for one person to believe in a young person before they begin believing in themselves.

From shyness to the spotlight, Liam’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. After watching his incredible growth over the last eight weeks as a volunteer chef assistant, Thi will be sharing her reflections tonight about Liam Gallagher, a great volunteer/supporter in helping phở, an iconic dish of Vietnam to be soon recognized as UNESCO’s Intangible World Heritage Dish in her own words. Stay tuned!
