Tickets have been on sale since April for all 29 days of The Polar Express here at Brecon Mountain Railway 🎟️✨ (please note there is no cancellation list and no further dates will be added)

Anyone who selected the option to have their Golden Tickets posted will receive them throughout October. This option can no longer be selected.

Ride with us and support Wales Air Ambulance

On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October, we’ll be welcoming representatives from Wales Air Ambulance Charity to the Brecon Mountain Railway for a special fundraising weekend.

Our support follows a recent emergency near the railway, when the Wales Air Ambulance helicopter used our newly completed car park as a landing site, enabling its specialist medical team to reach a casualty nearby.

Seeing the service in action brought home just how vital it is—particularly in rural areas where difficult terrain and distance can make reaching patients more challenging.

To support its lifesaving work:

❤️ BMR will donate £1 for every person who travels over the weekend
❤️ You can add an optional donation when booking
❤️ Donations can also be made at the railway
❤️ Wales Air Ambulance merchandise will be available to purchase

The charity’s representatives will be on hand to explain more about its work and how public donations help keep its helicopters flying and rapid response vehicles on the road.

Wales Air Ambulance delivers advanced, hospital-standard care across Wales, 24 hours a day. It must raise £13 million every year to maintain its aircraft and vehicles—and every contribution makes a difference.

A message from our Guards team…

After many years of looking after passengers on the Brecon Mountain Railway, our much-loved Guard, Steve, will be retiring on 27 September.

Steve’s friendly welcome, helpful approach and enthusiasm have made a real impression on so many of our visitors — and he is regularly mentioned in your reviews.

There are still two weeks to come and enjoy a journey with Steve. If you’ve travelled with him over the years, please share your memories, favourite moments or retirement wishes in the comments below — we’d love to pass them on.

Steve will be greatly missed, but we’re delighted that Ieuan and new team member Simon will be sharing the Guard’s role going forward. Please join us in wishing Steve a very happy retirement.

Mountains, reservoir views and a railway journey through Bannau Brycheiniog.

This is the kind of view waiting beyond the window on a trip with us. Choose an enclosed heritage carriage for big-picture views in comfort, or take a seat in our newer open-sided excursion carriage to feel even closer to the landscape.

And for the photographers, do not miss the chance to ride on one of our balcony carriages. It is a brilliant spot to take your own train-and-mountain photos along the route.

There may even be a little rain around this week, but that is all part of a Welsh railway adventure. Our enclosed heritage carriages mean you can still enjoy the views whatever the weather brings.

School holiday trains fill quickly, so pre-booking is strongly recommended before you travel.

Pre-booking is essential during the current hot, dry weather.

To help manage the ongoing fire risk, we are reducing the length of our trains. This means fewer seats may be available on each departure.

If you are planning a journey with us, please book in advance before travelling so you can secure your preferred time.

We know this may be disappointing for some visitors, but these temporary measures help us continue operating responsibly while conditions remain dry.
