🏆 BEST CAFÉ & COFFEE SHOP 2026! ☕️❤️

Following our post on Friday, we wanted to share a few more photos from an incredible night at the Melton Business Awards, where we were thrilled to be named Best Café & Coffee Shop! 🏆

But this post is really about saying THANK YOU to the suppliers and local businesses who have helped Steam & Bean come so far in such a short space of time.

☕ Coffee Masters UK – for our excellent coffee beans and so much of the stock that goes into every cup we serve.

🍰 Allez Bakes – for the amazing cakes that never stay on our counter for long!

🥓 Knapp’s Family Butchers – for the fantastic sausages and bacon behind our breakfasts.

🍬 Poppy-Joyful Treats – for keeping us stocked with plenty of sweet treats!

🚂 TRAIN OF THE WEEK! – THE “FLAKES” HAVE ARRIVED! 🍦

Something a little different for this week’s Train of the Week!

Two of GB Railfreight’s new Class 99s, already nicknamed “Flakes” after the classic 99 Flake 🍦, made their way through Melton in their striking GBRf orange and blue.

The pair were working top and tail, hauling a rake of London Underground stock, before heading up into the loop at Melton – all captured from the platform outside Steam & Bean! 🚇🚂

And keep watching until the end… 👀
Just as the 99s disappear into the loop, a Class 66 makes an appearance too! A pretty good few minutes for anyone who happened to be watching the railway. 😍

One of the things we love about being based on the platform is that you genuinely never know what’s going to turn up next!

WE WON! 🏆

We’re incredibly proud to share that Steam & Bean has won Best Café & Coffee Shop at the Melton BID Business Awards 2026! ❤️

When we opened Steam & Bean, we wanted to create more than somewhere to grab a coffee. We wanted to build a friendly little spot on the platform where commuters, locals, families and fellow railway enthusiasts would always feel welcome.

To have that recognised with this award means an enormous amount to us.

But most importantly, thank you to every single one of you who has supported us. Whether you pop in every morning before your train, visit us for lunch, come down for a coffee and a bit of train spotting, recommend us to friends, follow and share our posts, or have simply stopped by to say hello — you've helped make Steam & Bean what it is.

We’re still a relatively new little business, so to be able to put “Award-Winning Coffee Shop” above the door already feels pretty special! 🥹

A huge thank you also goes to the local businesses and suppliers who support us and help us serve the quality food and drinks we’re so proud of.

🚂 TRAIN OF THE WEEK! 🚂

This week’s spot is a cracking bit of double-headed diesel action through Melton Mowbray! 👀

Leading the way is a Class 47, with Class 31 No. 31108 coupled behind — two absolute classics of British diesel traction passing right by Steam & Bean. 💙💛

With the 47 looking fantastic in blue and yellow and 31108 wearing its unmistakable BR grey livery, it certainly made for an impressive sight through the station!

One of the perks of having a coffee shop on Platform 1… you never quite know what’s going to turn up outside the window! ☕🚂

There are some sounds you just never get tired of… and a Class 37 giving it some proper thrash is definitely one of them! 😍🚂

🚂 TRAIN OF THE WEEK 🚂

The Wensum & Thames Explorer ☀️ Sorry this one’s a little late!

Yesterday evening we caught The Wensum & Thames Explorer making its way back through Melton Mowbray — and that evening sunshine really did make for a great view! ☀️🚂

Unfortunately, 34028 Eddystone didn’t make an appearance as hoped, but its replacements certainly weren’t a bad sight instead!

A pair of West Coast Railways Class 47s, hauling a rake of classic coaching stock, made for a fantastic sight passing through the station in the golden evening sun. 😍

Not quite the steam we were expecting, but we certainly weren’t disappointed!

🚂☕ TOMORROW AT STEAM & BEAN!

Just a reminder that we’ll be opening early from 8am tomorrow for the special railtour passing through Melton Mowbray!

Following a last-minute change confirmed by The Railway Touring Company, 34028 Eddystone will unfortunately NOT be making an appearance due to the main line steam ban remaining in place.

🚂 Instead, the special is now expected to be hauled by TWO Class 47s, along with its beautiful rake of classic Mk1 coaches.

So while we might not be getting steam, a pair of 47s is still well worth getting up for! 👀
