It is with great sadness that we share the funeral arrangements for Donald Arthur Barnes, following information kindly provided by his family.
Donald was a much-loved and familiar face in Aldbourne and will be greatly missed by many across the village and wider community.
Donald’s funeral will take place on Wednesday 14th October at 2pm at St Michael’s Church, Aldbourne.
Everyone who knew Donald is warmly welcome to attend and join his family, friends and the community in paying their respects and celebrating his life.
The family have asked that those attending wear something colourful, as Donald really disliked black ❤️
Flowers are welcome, or donations can be made to St Michael’s Churchyard Fund through Claridge Funeral Directors in Marlborough.
Our thoughts remain with Donald’s family and friends at this very sad time.
Rest in peace, Donald. You will be greatly missed.

A year ago today, we upped sticks from Hertford and were handed the keys to The Blue Boar. 🍻🔑
Looking back, as complete newbies to hospitality who had never run a pub before, we genuinely had no idea just how hard it was going to be!
BUT, and it’s a big BUT, we knew we could turn The Blue Boar around.
Over the past year, we’ve learnt just how special Aldbourne is. We’ve never experienced a community quite like it, and the support we’ve received from the village and beyond has been incredible.
Are we still making mistakes? Absolutely. Are we still learning? Every single day. But we’re proud of how far we’ve come, and we’re determined to keep taking The Blue Boar from strength to strength.
The plan hasn’t changed: to make The Blue Boar the village pub at the heart of the community, just as it has been for hundreds of years. 💙🐗
And looking at this photo from the day we got the keys… we’ve certainly come a long way!
Thank you to everyone who’s been part of our first year. Here’s to the next chapter. 🍻
