September at Goldstone

September has brought the last flavours of summer and the first signs of autumn to Goldstone, with squash, pumpkins and chillies adding colour to the kitchen garden.

Our Taste of Autumn event celebrated the season’s produce, while our September National Garden Scheme open day offered visitors the chance to explore the gardens in support of nursing and health charities.

With British Food Fortnight still under way, we’re continuing to celebrate the producers behind our menus, including Ross’s free range hens 3 miles away, cheeses from Appleby’s and Westry Roberts and meat from Corbetts of Shrewsbury Market, alongside our own home-grown ingredients.

To everyone who joined us for a garden wander, a meal, afternoon tea or a few nights away - thank you. It’s been a pleasure to share September with you.

Now, to October: autumn colour, pumpkins, seasonal dishes and a cosy stay in the Shropshire countryside. 🍁

A warm welcome can make a stay feel special from the moment you arrive, and Holly Parker is one of the people who makes that happen at Goldstone.

Whether she’s welcoming guests, helping with a question or making sure everything is just right during a visit, Holly brings a friendly, personal touch to the experience.

Holly has now returned to university, but we’re looking forward to welcoming her back to Goldstone in December. If you’re visiting us then, do say hello!

🍂 What’s on at Goldstone this week

There’s still time to make the most of our September stay offer. Book by Wednesday 30th September and enjoy a cream tea, dinner, bed and breakfast over two nights for £730 for two. The perfect excuse to slow down and spend a little longer in the Shropshire countryside.

On Friday 2nd October at 11am, join one of our gardeners for a free guided tour of our five-acre gardens and productive kitchen garden. You’re welcome whether you’re staying with us or visiting for the morning; please let us know in advance if you’d like to come along.

Then, on Saturday 3rd October, gather around the table for our candlelit Harvest Supper, celebrating the flavours of autumn and the season’s produce.

For British Food Fortnight, we’re celebrating some of the local producers and suppliers who bring wonderful Shropshire food to our tables. 🍽️

Much of our cheese comes from nearby Appleby’s and Westry Roberts, while Corbetts of Shrewsbury Market supplies our meat. In our own kitchen garden, we grow fruit and vegetables that help shape the menu as the seasons change.

It’s a pleasure to serve food with such strong roots in the county we call home. 🌿

Today’s autumn equinox brings a gentle shift in the seasons at Goldstone. 🍂

The dahlias are still giving us plenty of colour, while the light turns softer and the first autumn tones begin to appear among the trees. It’s a lovely time to take a slower walk through the gardens, perhaps followed by tea and cake. 🍰🫖

Autumn is arriving in Goldstone’s kitchen garden, where squash, pumpkins and chillies are bringing colour to the beds – and plenty of inspiration for our chefs. 🎃🌶️

Come and celebrate the season with us. Children can carve a pumpkin to take home at our half-term workshop, then explore the gardens. On 3rd October you can gather around the table for our Harvest Supper, celebrating the flavours of autumn.
