We apologise for the silence over the past month but we have some important news to tell you all…

After three wonderful years we are leaving the training kitchen & cafe space at TKE Studios. We are extremely grateful to Tracey Emin and her team for getting us up and running when no one else would take a chance on us. Without this gift of the old morgue, we would never have been able to change the futures of so many young people in Thanet. However, it is time for pastures new.

During our time at TKE Studios we were very fortunate to be able to take part in some incredible events and had opportunities presented to us that we are deeply grateful for – so to Dame Tracey and all of her wonderful team we we say, thank you, thank you, thank you.

We are unsure what that the future looks like for The Perfect Place to Grow at the present time but we do know that this is not the end. It has been, at times, hard for both the team and the trainees, but we know every young person who came through those doors left in a better place than when they started. We also know that the young people in Thanet need our support more than ever.

We have assessed what we do, and how we do it. We know we are great at some things and need to work at others. However we are as committed to changing the futures of young people in Thanet as we were at the start of this project nearly five years ago and our work with the trainees will continue unabated.

It does, however, mean that we are looking for a new site and are open to ideas and options going forward, however crazy they may seem. Please do get in touch if you have an idea!

We also have lots of events, fundraisers and parties planned for the next couple of months until we leave the site full time so please look out for those.

The future is full of possibilities and we intend to embrace them head-on, and we look forward to an exciting new direction!

A little piece of coverage recently on what we do at TPPTG.

Connecting young people to a world of opportunities, teaching transferable skills so that they change their futures for the better. Building confidence and community by sharing good grub at the same time.

Thank you to everyone who has shaped us and supported us since 2023.

Excited for the next term with a whole new cohort of young people about to take their next steps

That was our last cafe service this term. 🌞

We are so grateful for your patronage in the cafe as it is one way we self-fund this project! (Trusts, foundations and sponsorships too!)

The cafe helps trainees to practice newly learned skills in a real-working environment. Hospitality as a tool to wellbeing and employment has a huge impact on the journeys of young people locally.

However, outside of customer facing service we work persistently side by side, creating tailored individual plans for every trainee to support physical and mental health challenges, navigating a wide range of very personal barriers. Guiding towards careers that they never knew were possible, not just in hospitality but across all industries.

This break from service gives us more time to focus on specific needs and goals of the trainees. We need to do what's important for them and are always grateful for community members who support us to support them.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to support the 2025-2026 cohort who are now moving onto their next chapters.

Especially our volunteer therapist, the professionals who come to their employability journey, take trainees on placement or work experience, as well as the mentors who have supported in their working fields from chefing to carpentry, creative writing.

For that we are very grateful.

See you in the autumn term.

Grain bowl of the moment: spelt, red rice, and bulgar dressed in a delicious herb gremolata. Giardinara (garden pickles) dressed gem, beet-top cime di rapa, smoked almonds. We recommend you add a boiled egg and buttered toast for a really full rounded lunch.

We're using the best of the seasons in the kitchen garden and local gleaned goods so the grain bowl will vary each week but be just as delicious every time!

Also don't miss the last few bowls of the Soutzakakia! A delicious cinnamon and tomato meatball dish giving us the Mediterranean vibes we need this summer. Get it while stocks last!

See you tomorrow - Friday treats!

SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER.

Please keep dining with us until 24th July Tue-Fri 10-3………..

The Perfect Place to Grow Trainee Kitchen & Cafe will be taking a break in August while we prepare for the autumn term and welcome a new cohort of trainees.
Our current trainees are moving on to their next chapter, and we’ll be using this time to get everything ready for the months ahead. We can’t wait to shape up, reset, and meet the next group of trainees joining us this autumn.

In the meantime keep your eyes peeled for Friday night feasting with pop-ups from local chefs, heeding the way for September supper clubs, including our fundraising feast with Olia Hercules and for our next installment at the Turner Contemporary this autumn.

Thank you to all trainees, volunteers, customers and our wonderful staff who have made this term a huge success. See you in the cafe after the break for more seasonal, wholesome meals. From us, at The Perfect Place to Grow.

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers making the kitchen garden what it is! Full of life and colour. Everything is in full bloom and the volunteer watering calendar is in full swing. Please give us a shout if you'd like to visit and give the produce a water this summer.

Kitchen garden veg plays a starring role on our menu so the trainees and community can grow it and eat it. Full circle. Plot to plate. Come get involved!
