🎉The Bus Café is 10!!🎉
There's a lot of businesses turning 10 this year & we are super proud to be one of them!
10 years ago, Lois, Xander, Simon and Jodie sat in the mulberry tree having a few pints & chatting about the idea of starting a cafe... After a few more pints the idea of the bus was born! A few weeks later we found a bus online & a few weeks after that the bus arrived! Then we were like, oh errrrmmm "WE BOUGHT A BUS! 😬🫠 NOW WHAT?!"
We started life making peri peri & halloumi wraps on a BBQ (inspired by our South African counter parts!) in The Yard which was then next to Fort Road Hotel. We were lucky enough to share this unique spot of chaos & curiosities, with Charlie, Aayan, Tim (r.i.p.) & Kelly. All created by the master of Chaos himself, Mr Joe Brown.
We were on the yard for about 6 months before we found what is now known as The Sun Deck. We couldn't wait to set up home on our new found spot. The Sun Deck then, was a run down piece of land at that point, fly tipped, vandalised & pretty grim... We proposed to the owner of turning the whole place into a streetfood destination on the sea front, who was delighted with the idea!
We've had quite a journey! From BBQ wraps to coming 3rd in the national breakfast awards in 2019 and then winning 1st place in 2020! We've been in national breakfast recipe books, we've won cafe of the year from Prestige for the past 5 years in a row! We've been mentioned in Time Out magazine, we've celebrated engagements, had 2 weddings & even a wedding proposal on the top deck!
We will be celebrating on the 22nd May by going back to our roots. We'll be making wraps with our famous "broccoli slaw" and we're making our (GF) rostis for our breakfast, like we used to, just for that weekend! We would love you to celebrate with us!
We want to say thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years. We wouldn't be here without you all. And especially a big shout out to our incredible team. You guys have kept us going strong & you do us proud everyday.
