Last day of the month of Ramadan for us today. Tomorrow we will be celebrating Eid, to mark the end of the month of fasting, prayer and charity.

We will be celebrating tomorrow, the day is called Eid, which translates to "festival," "feast," or "celebration". Or Eid-Al-Fitr which translates as "festival of breaking the fast".

We continue to wish peace and unity amongst all. And may the oppressed be freed from their pain and heartache. They are at the forefront of our thoughts, along with those who are no longer with us.

May kindness, compassion and charity be our lasting legacy.

Alhamdulillah. Always.

A huge thank you to Ladybarn Primary School , Cringle Brook Primary School and Green End Primary School , all part of Kingsway Community Trust , for their kindness and support during the month of Ramadan.

The pupils, the staff and parents at these schools have been nothing short of truly amazing. Over the years they have consistently helped us to support families and individuals within our communities. And this last month has been no different.

As well as referring families, they help with getting non-perishable food items to us. And yesterday, Wednesday 18th March, we collected an enormous amount of food donated by the pupils at these schools.

These donations will reach families and individuals locally, from the families we support directly. But also through local churches that provide a free food service, but are themselves struggling to get donations in. Namely St Clements Church in Openshaw and Reach Church in Stalybridge. They do amazing work in supporting those in need.

On behalf of all those we're able to assist throughout the year, we thank each and everyone of you for your kindness and support.

On Wednesday we were approached by one of the South Manchester neighbourhood teams, asking if we would be able to assist with Eid dinner (celebration of the end of Ramadan). Without missing a beat we said yes, like you do.

400 asylum seekers, 150 of them being children, would need to be catered for.

After speaking with many of our catering contacts, we've managed to arrange food and drink for these families. At a favourable price.

But, we are only able to assist with the help of each and everyone of you.

The following is the menu we have organised:

Naan
Chicken biriyani
Kebabs (chicken)
Samosas
Aloo Palak
Chicken karahi
Salad and yoghurt sauce

Along with all the cutlery, drinks, all served from baine maries, as a buffet style, the cost of this is ยฃ4500.00.

We can help feed 400 people, on Friday 20th March 2026, with your help.

We do what we do, and have done for 17years, with the help and support of you all.

Hunger is continuing to grip communities, according to a foodbank charity as it revealed that almost 300,000 emergency parcels were given to people facing hunger and hardship across the North West in 2025.

Trussell says it provided the equivalent of 820 food parcels a day in the region - the equivalent of one every two minutes.

The number of emergency food parcels provided in the North West last year is 22% higher than before the pandemic and cost of living crisis, it added.

Helen Barnard, director of policy and research at Trussell, said: โ€œTodayโ€™s figures show that too many people across the North West are still being pushed to the brink.

"Too many people are being forced to skip meals so their children can eat, or survive on cups of tea because they donโ€™t have any food left in the cupboards.

"The pandemic and cost of living crisis have left deep scars. Severe hardship still weighs heavily on daily lives, leaving people feeling overlooked and left behind."

On the evening of 24 February 2026, at approximately 8:30pm, a serious security incident occurred at Manchester Central Mosque (Victoria Park) during Taraweeh prayers in the blessed month of Ramadan.

A white male entered the Mosque wearing a hi-viz jacket carrying a large bag. He was accompanied by a black male, both entering the Mosque at the same time. The Mosque volunteers spotted the suspicious bag containing an axe, which was placed into the main hall of the Mosque by the assailant. The white male was escorted to a separate room by volunteers and was found to have been carrying multiple weapons including a hammer and a knife. He was eventually arrested by the Police.

The black male left the mosque shortly before police arrived, after it became apparent that the situation had been contained. To our knowledge, he has not yet been arrested by Greater Manchester Police.

All relevant information and CCTV footage has been passed onto the Police who are continuing their investigation. The Muslim community in the UK has experienced a notable rise in threats and hostility over recent years. The increase in Islamophobic incidents is a serious concern, and greater resources are urgently needed to address this growing and real risk.

We will continue to cooperate fully with the police and urge all mosque attendees to remain vigilant. Congregants are advised to travel in groups where possible and to ensure that children are not left unattended.

The swift and responsible actions of our volunteers played a crucial role in containing the situation. Without their intervention, the consequences could have been far more serious.

Frightening news โ€” we have just been made aware of an incident this evening.

A man was arrested at Victoria Park Mosque in Rusholme after reportedly entering the mosque wearing a high-visibility jacket and allegedly carrying knives, with another report suggesting he may also have had an axe.

Thankfully, he was stopped before any harm was done. Police were called, and the man was arrested.

In the current climate of fear and hate, please be extra careful when you are out and when attending prayers. If you notice anything or anyone suspicious, report it immediately to the police.

Please remain vigilant and look out for one another. Support and protect everyone in our communities โ€” do not allow hate to divide us or fear to confuse us.

We are better than this.

These are very troubling and uncertain times.

So here we are again, for Muslims the month of Ramadan is upon us again. A blessing.

A few have asked, "what is Ramadan?". Here is a brief snapshot.

The Islamic calender follows the lunar cycle, which is a shorter year than the current solar calender we follow universally.

Fasting starts at dawn, and ends at sunset. The breaking of the fasting day is called iftar.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, a holy month of prayer and fasting. It begins and ends with the shape of the crescent moon, which is why Ramadan is not set on any specific days annually.

Each year, the day it starts and ends changes as it goes with the moon calendar. Depending on the region, it may even change the dates on which Ramadan is celebrated.

Muslims believe that Ramadan is meant to strengthen our relationship with God. The religious holiday involves fasting, praying and being around loved ones.

Muslims believe that during the month of Ramadan, God gave Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) the Qu'ran, Islam's holy book..

Itโ€™s a month of charity and generosity. Itโ€™s a time of doing good deeds for those near and far, and a time of spiritual reflection.

The Qur'an reads:

Qur'an (Surah al-Baqarah (2):183-186)

The idea behind fasting is to practice self restrain, which is one of the pillars of Islam. Fasting is done from dusk till dawn. Every Muslim that has reached puberty, and is physically capable, is required to fast.

Muslims must abstain from:

Liquids

Food

Sexual activities

Negative thoughts

Bad intentions

Although there are no sexual activities during the fast, couples are allowed to have intimate encounters at night once the fast is broken.

Muslims ask for forgiveness during Ramadan for the sins they have committed. It is about repentance. A habit takes a month to form, so Ramadan being a month-long allows for the habit to form.

It becomes a time to commune more deeply with God. It becomes a time to become more aware of God's mercy and to seek that forgiveness.

During Ramadan, the five daily prayers continue to be observed. Muslims break their fast after the evening prayer with the meal called ifแนญฤr. This meal is often celebrated with friends and extended family. Ifแนญฤr traditionally starts with dates and water.

A lost day can be made up by extra days of fasting. People who get sick or are traveling during Ramadan can be exempt from fasting, but would have to fast for additional days after Ramadan is over to make up for the days missed.

Those who do not fast may choose a substitute like feeding the poor or giving money to feed others.

Pregnant and nursing individuals as well as people on their periods are exempt from fasting, as well as older or weaker participants or those with mental illness.

The end of Ramadan is a celebration known as Eid al-Fitr, one of the major holidays for Muslims. Families and friends get together, and there is a special communal prayer to mark the end of Ramadan. People often dress up in traditional clothing and eat traditional foods.

So we wish all who will be observing the month of Ramadan, a peaceful month. And may it allow us to increase in kindness and compassion for all.

And for all of our non-Muslim friends, we truly appreciate and respect your kindness, support and understanding during this month.

We pray for all of humanity and wish everyone well, we pray for those who are suffering at the hands of hard hearts, we pray for those who are being persecuted under oppression and occupation. We pray that there is ease and calm for all who are facing difficult times right now. May we all find peace, calm and friendship with all.

Sad news to report.

Inna lillahee wa Inna ilaihi rajioon.

The family, with the terminally ill mum, that you've all assisted us with, sadly passed away yesterday. Her husband and son were with her, along with close friends.

Her last four weeks have been in hospital, battling cancer. She fought hard over the last couple of years, overcame many challenges.

We pray that the family is given the strength and patience to deal with this most difficult of times.
