“Rip off”

Small businesses deal with comments like this every single day, it’s something we need to talk about.

We’re talking about a 40p difference here. 40p. 😂

Personally, I’d much rather pay an extra 40p knowing that my food has been made fresh, made on the day and with quality ingredients, than save a few pennies and have something that’s been mass-produced, sitting on a shelf for weeks and packed with preservatives and ingredients I can barely pronounce.

A small independent bakery simply cannot compete with the buying power of a multi-billion-pound supermarket…and nor should we have to.

When you buy from a small business, you’re not just paying for the product. You’re paying for someone’s time, ingredients, wages, electricity, rent, packaging and everything else that goes into keeping the doors open.

So before calling a small business a “rip off”, maybe remember there’s a real person behind that business trying to make a living. ❤️

Support small. Shop local. And if 40p is the difference between you supporting an independent business or a supermarket giant… we’ll leave that one with you😉

Can you find all 12 Bug Hunt stickers hidden around Middleton Shopping Centre?

It’s FREE to take part and there’s a chance to win one of two £50 Home Bargains vouchers!

Here’s how to join in:

🌼 Collect your FREE Bug Hunt trail card from Customer Services (First Floor) or Café Salento (Second Floor).
🔍 Explore the shopping centre and look out for the numbered Bug Hunt window stickers.
🏪 When you find one, pop into that retailer and ask a member of staff for the matching sticker.
📋 Collect all 12 stickers, complete your trail card (including a parent or guardian’s contact details) and return it to Customer Services to be entered into the prize draw.

📅 Complete your trail by 30 July 2026.
🎉 Winners will be drawn during the first week of August.

It’s the perfect family activity this summer while exploring everything Middleton Shopping Centre has to offer. We can’t wait to see how many of you complete the trail!
