Coffee Nubia

Coffee Nubia Community Coffee shop Coffee Nubia was created with the community in mind. We have a number of regular groups who use the space as a meeting place.

Located in the heart of Moss Side, Manchester, it’s a creative space where learning, culture, and, of course coffee, are at its core. Community Hub
Operated by its friendly owner, Junior, the space is perfect for community gatherings. Our groups range from book clubs to local artists and small business owners. Message us for more information on bookings. Culture
Coffee Nubia is committed to showca

sing and supporting the works of talented artists of all disciplines. We’ve previously had poetry nights, book launches, and open mic nights from established and emerging artists from all over the UK. Keep updated with our events page for information on upcoming shows. Learning
We believe education is essential for both individuals and communities to thrive. For this reason, we have a number of educational programs running throughout the year. Black History Month (October) is a popular time for courses and seminars. Message us if you’re interested in giving a course. Coffee
Coffee Nubia is the perfect place for ethically-sourced coffee. We have a wide range of coffee beans, which come from our partners in Ethiopia. We also have a wide selection of Caribbean treats and snacks made on the premises.

The Spiritual Swing Low, Sweet Chariot was brought to our shores by the Fisk Jubilee Singers. According to African Stories in Hull + East Yorkshire: "During their 1874 tour to Europe [Thomas Rutling, pictured] refused to return to America because of racism and remained in Britain. He continued to sing and became a soloist known as 'the African Tenor'. He settled in Harrogate in North Yorkshire [see plaque + link 4] and died there in 1915."
