This photograph from the 1960s captures a moment in time along the Bridgewater Canal, a waterway that has shaped our local area for generations.

Long before the canal became a destination for walkers, boaters and visitors enjoying a drink by the water, it was a vital route for industry and trade. As commercial traffic began to decline during the 1960s, the canal was starting the transformation into the peaceful leisure waterway we know and love today.

Here at The Moorings, we’re lucky to be part of that continuing story. Every day we welcome boaters tying up at the moorings, walkers stopping for a refreshment, and friends gathering to enjoy one of the most scenic spots on the canal.

Looking at photos like this reminds us just how much history flows past our doorstep.
