Today, we said a heartfelt farewell to the remarkable Nick Telfer, an unforgettable figure in the story of Croma Pizza Manchester and a cherished friend to so many of us.
Nick was part of our founding team when Croma first opened its doors in the city centre back in 2000, after many of us had worked alongside him at Pizza Express on South King Street. His love for hospitality and his warm spirit shaped Croma from the very beginning. Later, he took on the role of General Manager at Croma Chorlton, guiding it through the turbulent times of the Covid pandemic with unwavering dedication and care.
It was Nick, alongside director Bob, who handpicked our unique and delicious wines, crafting the legendary Bob’s Reserve Wine List — a daring selection savoured by those with a taste for the bold and adventurous.
Nick’s passion for food, wine, and the joy of a shared table was infectious. His famous Wine Nights weren’t just about tasting; they were experiences filled with laughter, learning, and his signature charm. He took immense pride in knowing that guests left his care having enjoyed a special night.
To this day, his touches on the menu and the culture of our restaurants remain strong, from his thoughtful details on our menu, to his shaping and mentoring of our younger employees as they entered the world of work and hospitality for the first time.
His absence will be deeply felt not only by everyone here but by the broader Manchester community and his friends in North Wales and beyond.
Tonight, many glasses will be raised in Nick’s honour, remembering the warmth, wisdom, and joy he brought to our lives.
To Sarah, Amy, and Laurie, we send our sincerest condolences.
Rest in peace, Nick.
With love from all at Croma ###
