Well, in what we thought was our chance to shine and show off our cooking potential, turned out to be a complete prank show! All in great fun though and we met some wonderful people!
I must admit, I was certainly looking forward to cooking for Monica Galetti. However, the masters of disasters had other plans as the Saboteurs in a different part of the Manor were deep in their tricks and ready to prank us!
Fabulous experience and if you got to see the show, I hope you enjoyed it!
Incase anyone was wondering what I actually made for the show:
Lemon Drizzle Victoria Sponge
X
Cumberland & Haggis Sausage Rolls with a Whisky Dipping sauce
X
Retro Prawn Cocktail filled Yorkshire puddings.

A lovely Singaporean Restaurant that brings new flavours to the table.
Starters - Papaya salad
Mains - Beef Shin Rendang
Hainan Chicken
Dessert - Banana fritters

The Rendang was the star of the show, bursting with flavour and incredibly moorish.
The service was pleasant with a very nice waiter being attentive, polite and very smily - great to see.
The setting is questionable, with the restaurant feeling like it’s been set in a conference room. But, I’d recommend looking past that and concentrate of some delicious food!

The Ivy - Kensington, London
Starter - Crab & Avocado Tian
Mains: Roast beef & Yorkshire pudding
Mains: Shepherds Pie

The Ivy is nothing if not consistent. With good quality food and generally good service.
The crab Tian was nice, well presented with an overall fresh and light balance.
The shepherds pie was ok with a good flavour and again Nicky presented.
The roast beef was average at best. The beef could have been rarer and the roast potatoes seemed like they have been done in a fryer.
The Ivy’s charm is its interior with its classic design. But, I wish they would update their menu. It seems like the same things are always there.
I am a fan of The Ivy, but growing slightly tired of the same thing.

There comes a point in life when your head says “Slow down”. When my head tells me this, my go to place is the Isle of Tiree. Perfection Paradise in the UK. 4 hours ferry ride from Oban, this absolute gem has a multitude of reasons to visit. One being The Alan Stephenson house for Sunday lunch. Now, Tiree isn’t the easiest of places to get produce to, but there is a fair amount of local produce to choose from. The Alan Stephenson house offer home cooked delights that only a remote Scottish island can offer. For me, I would have liked to see slightly bigger portions, but it was ample and fueled me up for a brisk walk along a coastline that wouldn’t be out of place in the Hawaiian islands.
Visit Tiree…but shhhhhh..it’s a secret!!

Tattu - Manchester
Tattu has become a little institution in Manchester with a good following and a recognised reputation. This Asian fusion menu is complimented by a decor that could easily fit in downtown Shanghai.
The short rib and dim sum were flavourful and well executed. The short dragon cocktail was a little too much theatre and lacked impressiveness when it came to its content.
Overall, a good date night venue that is well executed and fun to try their culinary delights.

The French Restaurant - Midland Hotel, Manchester.
To me, The French is probably the most understated restaurant in the North of England. The exceptional menu together with a level of service that a 3 Michelin would be proud of is simply divine.
Excuse the terrible photos in this post, the eagerness to eat was just too much to handle.
Chef Adam’s menu encapsulates the best of the North and shows what a truly great chef and his team can do with local ingredients.
The 12 course taster menu and wine pairing was far from pretentious, but was a celebration of days gone by and modern Britain. Having dishes paired with Stout, Sake, Orange wine all made for an experience few restaurants reach.
Stand out dishes include the Monkfish, raspberry dessert, the bread…OMG, the bread!. The onion consommé was on another stratosphere, 5 hour roasted onion then made into pure nectar.
If you hadn’t realised already, Im a massive fan of this restaurant and it is my “Go to” restaurant in the North when I need my fine dining fix.
A very well recommended restaurant.
And a shout out to the head chef and the Sommelier, Dimitri.
