Just a few points of clarification in response to the councils’ remarks last week.
It’s very difficult to negotiate with the council when we received the letter on the 17th Dec 2025 from the RBWM solicitors, saying they would not be renewing the lease under section (f) the redevelopment clause and that they have served notice on us. (How could we negotiate with that).
We did try though; we sent them an e-mail in early in January asking the council to reconsider and gave them options.
These included taking the carpark back from us plus the moorings plus the putting green. This way they could take all the revenue from these facility’s without spending a penny.
We also gave them the choice of purchasing the café building from us and running it themselves so that my staff wouldn’t lose their jobs.
They didn’t even have the curtesy to respond to that e-mail.
I had a meeting with Simon Werner (Leader of the council) last year during which he explained that the RBWM had to borrow £100million pounds 2025 from the government to keep afloat. And as of Feb, this year they borrow another £53 million pounds.
Why then would you look at spending between £500 thousand to 1 million pounds plus, building a new café etc? I’m sure the council has much bigger priorities to spend rate payer money on.
They put in the paper they could rebuild and have accessible toilets? “ At some point” what does that even mean at some point
We have a disabled ramp for wheelchairs and prams, a disabled toilet with baby a changing facility, and male and female toilets.
When he says “it’s not about who runs it” what a load of b # . He has obviously never run a business and can’t understand all the good will (over sixty years) that goes into building up customer relationships.
Our café is run by a family for families like most small businesses, not like some big chain companies that change employees weekly.
My staff have worked for me for years building that customer trust and rapport, that takes years.
In my opinion this seems, more about scoring political points. What’s funny, the only support has come from the Reform party.
Once again, I just wanted to thank you for all your support,
and my amazing Staff
