Let's answer a few Frequently Asked Questions! (Some may be exaggerated for effect ;) )
1. Are you open?
Probably yes, maybe no! We have a neon sign outside if that's on, we are definitely open. Usually outside of school holidays we try to keep Mondays free (closed) so that we can use that for cleaning and any jobs that need doing. If the door is locked, we are closed.
2. Can I leave my kids here and sit outside with a beer?
No. All children must be with a responsible person. We are not here to babysit.
3. What ages do you cater for?
We have two play frames - one is for toddlers (and it's the best toddler frame around) aged 1-4. The bigger play frame is for kids 4-12. We do let toddlers use it, but please make sure they supervised. Toddlers do not look where they are going! We also have a large toddler/baby soft area. Please keep older kids out of the smaller areas to avoid scaring the little ones.
5. Can I bring the dog in?
Sorry, no. For cleanliness we say no dogs in PlayMablethorpe. Toddlers are crawling around and it is just easier to keep clean if we cay no dogs. We do now have a retro arcade game area at the front, someone can wait here with dogs. Usually Dad or Grandad is quite happy to take the dog for a walk to save sitting in soft play for hours.
6. How much is it?
General admission for a regular session is £5.50 a child. That is for every child that plays. We do not charge for adults. Not even a £1. Our equipment is great, costs money to maintain and clean and if you are using the equipment we think it is a fair price. The people that say 'Our little one won't play' and then you get them out of their push chair and take them in - just know that we do see you, and we remember :) We usually start charging from when a baby is mobile and playing. In a pram - no charge! Our events are priced differently as we have to pay performers and groups to come in to hold these events. Booking in advance for events is always recommended.
7. Do you do food?
We do - last year we didn't do any hot food at all, but this year we have a small selection.
At our snack bar you can get cakes and sweet treats, chocolate, drinks, great coffee, hot chocolate etc. You can order hot dogs and burgers and even a pork rib sandwich. We do not do chips. We know this is disappointing.
We also have the Shake Shack on site, and you can order from the window inside PlayMablethorpe.
8. What are your opening times?
General hours are 10-4, but please understand that sometimes on quiet days we might close an hour early if we have no customers. Quietest times are first thing in the morning. In the summer we stay open later. Please keep an eye on social media for 100% accurate up to date info.
9. My kids are SEN will they be ok?
We actually run a weekly SEN session on a Sunday afternoon. It's a safe space for the kids, the gate is always manned, and there are parents there who get it! In the summer holidays we are running extra SEN sessions, one on a Friday morning, and one after our Balloon & Bounce sessions. If you can't make those, you can still come, we will do our best to make you feel at home.
10. Do I need socks?
YES, YES, YES.
Please bring socks. We do sell them, and they cost £2, but I would much rather you have them with you and save you some money. The socks are necessary for good health and hygiene. We do understand that some SEN kids struggle with socks, so please try, but we won't make a big deal if it's difficult.
11. What are the rules?
Ok, so we have a couple of main rules! No fighting and no ball throwing. Dads we understand you love to throw balls at the kids. We get it. But this escalates to a kid throwing a ball in the face of a small child. Tears. Fighting. Big sister getting payback. Parents having words. So, lets not. Also, keep bigger kids out of the toddler areas. Little ones do not watch where they are going and if your big kids are running through there, someone is going to get hurt.
Lastly - No food and drink in the play areas. If you let your kids take a drink in, they spill it, it looks like we**ee and then we have to close and area and clean it. No one wants to playing in we**ee or otherwise. And Smarties are a pain in the bum to clean up in the play areas. Eat at the tables.
12. We are not here to babysit!
Please watch your kids. You are still on parenting duty even in soft play. We know your newsfeed is thrilling. Feel free to also to engage in conversation with your partner or even play with your kids. As long as you keep it chilled we allow parents to play with their children. Don't be lunatics.
13. Do I need to book?
For general sessions, not usually...however. We are coming into the summer holidays, and if it rains suddenly it will be busy. If we get to capacity, and there is no space to sit, we will put FULL signs on the door and turn you away. Generally, we always recommend booking for the special sessions, they tend to fill up in the days before.
