🌊 Seals on the Beach – What You Need to Know 🦭
With better weather and the start of busier seasons also comes an increase in seals coming ashore to rest along our beaches 🌊 —While it might be unusual to see, this is completely natural behaviour for this time of year 🩷
Seals often haul out to have a rest, conserve energy, and regulate their body temperature. You may even spot them in the classic “banana pose” 🍌—arched with head and tail raised—which is a sign they are relaxed happy and comfortable.
As a reminder:
👉 These animals are wild and protected, and they have just as much right to be on the beach as we do.
👉 Please keep your distance, avoid approaching them, and keep dogs on leads nearby.
👉 Disturbing a resting seal can cause unnecessary stress and force them back into the water before they’re ready- they may still be exhausted or be poorly in need of help.
As a sanctuary, we are always here to help. If you believe a seal is injured, unwell, in distress, or in immediate danger, please do contact us—we are only a call away and will always help if we can.
Thank you for helping us keep both people and wildlife safe by giving seals the space they need 💙🩵
