This week we've had two 15 year old school students here for work experience - and they've been brilliant!
Customers have loved their cheerfulness and enthusiasm and they've both shown great care and consideration in all aspects of their work. Their tasks have included using the point of sale equipment, taking customer orders to tables and clearing away empties, washing up, sweeping and helping set up the tables and chairs on our patio. They got involved in the weekly groups we have and even wrote a brilliant poem which they read out at our Tuesday writers group. During the week they have learnt our safety and hygiene systems and have learnt how to make some of the items we make here on site: foccacia bread, arriabbiata sauce and pizza dough. Today they stretched and topped their own pizzette which we then cooked in our wood-fired pizza oven for them to have for lunch! They even gave us this beautiful orchid, some other gifts and a Thank You card for having them here. We’ve enjoyed them working with us this week and wish them both every success in their final year at school and for the future. We’re missing them already!

We are a small coffee/sandwich shop and we do as much as we possibly can to help and support the community of St Annes of which we are proud to be a part. Serving FairTrade and Organic certified Naples Roast barista-made coffee, fresh Italian style sandwiches 7 days a week. We hold free weekly events: Writers Group, Wellness Wednesday and a Thursday morning get-together for transport enthusiasts. We also regularly hold pop-up events and the venue is available to hire for pizza parties catering to all age groups.

Every town and village has that one shop people always recommend.It might be your local butcher, a farm shop, a charity shop, a florist, a hairdresser, a gift shop, or somewhere completely different.

This week we have two 15 year old students with us who are on work experience from a school in Preston. On Monday they met the facilitator of our weekly writing group and she said to them that they could write a poem or story to share with the group on Tuesday. They read out their poem to the group, which was very well received, and we thought that we would share it with everyone on here as it’s too good not to! We were all impressed with the effort and time they put into it.

My journey of work experience

My first steps into the working world felt bright,
A place of welcome, warmth and guiding light,
Accepted and valued from the very first day,
Kind hearts and smiling faces helped show me the way.

Each lesson I've learnt helped my confidence grow,
New knowledge and skills began to flourish and glow,
My colleagues stood beside me through every challenging climb,
Offering support and encouragement time after time.

The memories we've made will forever remain,
Filled with laughter, leadership and moments to gain,
My first work experience was a wonderful start,
A treasured chapter I'll carry close to my heart.
