Serving fresh, homemade food, local ales and wines—with outdoor decking overlooking the bay. You got it. Would that be the vegan one? Gluten free? Carnivore? Omnivore? Nom-nom-nomnivore?! We cater for nearly every dietary requirement, but if there's something specific please do get in touch in advance. Lunches? Heck yes. Ploughman's full of local cheeses, sandwiches, or something more substantial, we've got it covered. Check out our menu page on our delightful website by clicking on the link! Evening meals in a gorgeous, candlelit atmosphere? Oh yes please. We do recommend booking for evenings as we get very, very busy. Locally sourced produce, served by friendly staff with a drop of something local - what could be better?! Dog friendly, children friendly, free Wifi and charge points for all of your technological needs. Not that you'll need them, while you're here, of course. There's far too much to look at and talk about! From our giant octopus sculpture bursting out of the wall, to our ship's figurehead on the bar, to the Colombian printing press around the corner - there's plenty to spark your imagination and conversation while you're here. In light of the the current situation, our indoor seating is limited and socially distanced, so please please do book if you'd like to eat here. Tables outside are available on a first come, first serve basis and some of them are covered...but bring your waterproofs! Please adhere to our clear one way system, and our 'House Rules' (available to see on our page and on our website) while you're with us, for your safety, and the safety of others around you. THURSDAY NIGHT. SHANTIES. LET’S DO THIS.

Forget sitting at home pretending Thursday is a school night… Thirsty Thursday is happening at The Ancient Mariner!

From 8.30pm this Thursday, our legendary Lynmouth Shanty Crew will be taking over the pub and bringing the proper sea-dog chaos!

Expect big voices, loud choruses, plenty of pints and a whole lot of “one more song!”

You don’t need to know the words.
You don’t need to be able to sing.
You definitely don’t need to be a sailor.

Just bring yourself, your mates and your thirst — we’ll take care of the rest!

So come down, grab a pint, find yourself a spot and get ready to join in.

🍂Autumn Adventures in Lynmouth 🐾

There’s no such thing as bad weather… just the wrong coat!

As the seasons change, Lynmouth becomes the perfect place for a proper autumn or winter wander.

Misty woodland paths, mossy rocks, tumbling streams, towering trees and plenty of fresh Exmoor air — and, if you’re lucky, a four-legged friend to show you the way!

It might be a little muddy.
It might be a little damp.
You might come back looking like you’ve wrestled a bush…

But that’s half the fun!

And after a good walk, you’ll have definitely earned somewhere warm and cosy to put your feet up, enjoy a hearty meal, a warming drink and perhaps a little something naughty on the side.

So grab your boots, wrap up warm, bring the dog and come and explore everything that makes Lynmouth rather special in the cooler months.

Walks first. Muddy paws second. Food and drinks afterwards.
We think that sounds like a pretty good day out.

A Little Heads-Up from The Ancient Mariner

Just a little note from us this evening — we’ll be running a slightly limited food menu tonight while we work behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly.

We’re really sorry if your favourite dish isn’t available this evening, and we really appreciate your understanding.

BUT… the good news is our Sunday Roasts are still very much on!

So if you’re craving a proper, comforting Sunday dinner, come on down and let us do the cooking. Think tender roast, crispy roast potatoes, lashings of gravy and all the trimmings — exactly what a Sunday should be!

Our team will still be here with a warm welcome, cold drinks, good company and plenty of smiles.

Thank you, as always, for your patience and continued support. It genuinely means the world to our little corner of Lynmouth.

Our local legend Russell is behind the bar at The Ancient Mariner, serving up a cracking range of cider for just £5 A PINT!

AND… from 4PM, we’ve got THREE PINT RULE bringing the live music! 🎸🎤🔥

So the plan is simple:

🍺 Cider just £5 a pint
😎 Russell behind the bar
🤪 You making increasingly questionable decisions

🍂 A little Autumn update from The Ancient Mariner 🍂

As summer draws to a close, we just want to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who has walked through our doors over the past few months.

Whether you’ve joined us for a pint in the sunshine, tucked into some of our homemade food, enjoyed an evening of live music, or simply popped in for a chat — it’s been an absolute pleasure having you with us. Your support, laughter and company are what make The Ancient Mariner the place it is.

As we head into Autumn, from Monday 7th September we’ll be moving to our Autumn opening hours, settling into a slightly different rhythm for the season ahead.

But some things certainly aren’t changing…

🍺 Great ales & drinks
🎶 Live music
❤️ And, most importantly, even better company!

There’s something rather special about pub season as the evenings draw in, and we’re looking forward to cosy nights, good food, great music and plenty more memories with you all.
