The Lynmouth Shanty Crew are based in the beautiful coastal village of Lynmouth on Exmoor, where the rugged moor meets the sea. Passionate about preserving the rich tradition of maritime music, the crew perform a broad repertoire of traditional sea shanties and nautical folk songs, alongside well-loved modern favourites inspired by life on the water.
Their lively performances celebrate the area’s seafaring heritage and are guaranteed to get audiences singing along.

Discover the Story Behind Lynmouth's Iconic Rhenish Tower

When staying at The Bath Hotel, take a stroll to one of Lynmouth's most photographed landmarks – the historic Rhenish Tower.

Built in the early 1800s, this unique tower was originally used to pump seawater to private bathing facilities, reflecting the Victorian fascination with the health benefits of sea bathing. Its distinctive design was inspired by the towers that line Germany's River Rhine, giving it a character unlike anywhere else on the North Devon coast.

But the tower wasn't just for bathers. For generations of local mariners, it served as a beacon of safety, with a tar barrel lit at night to help guide boats safely into Lynmouth Harbour.

The Rhenish Tower also tells a story of resilience. The original structure was destroyed during the devastating Lynmouth Flood of 1952, a tragedy that forever changed the village. Rebuilt as part of the harbour's restoration, the tower stands today as a proud symbol of the community's strength and determination.

Located at the harbour entrance, it's the perfect spot to begin a waterfront walk, capture stunning coastal views, and connect with Lynmouth's remarkable maritime heritage.
