🎃👻 DID YOU KNOW HALLOWEEN ORIGINATED IN IRELAND? 🇮🇪
Halloween dates back over 2,000 years to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced Sow-in), which marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter.
The ancient Celts believed that on the night of 31st October, the boundary between the living and the dead became thinner, allowing spirits to cross into our world. 🔥👻
Bonfires were lit, disguises were worn, and people gathered to protect themselves from wandering spirits.
🎃 And here's a spooky fact! Before pumpkins became popular, the Irish carved turnips into frightening faces to ward off evil spirits. When Irish emigrants brought their traditions to America, pumpkins became the lantern of choice!
Over time, Samhain traditions mixed with Christian customs, helping shape the Halloween we celebrate today.
So Halloween isn't just about fancy dress, sweets and scary movies… it's a tradition with deep roots in Irish history and folklore! 🇮🇪🖤
