A Sunday Good News Story from the countryside that deserves more attention.
When a wildfire broke out in the Pentland Hills, firefighters were joined by local gamekeepers, farmers and land managers who turned up with the kit, knowledge and experience needed to help bring it under control.
The fire still damaged around 17 hectares, but reports suggest it could have spread far further without that rapid local response.
It is a strong reminder that the people who work these landscapes every day are often the first to step up when things go wrong. Gamekeepers are not just there in the shooting season. They are out there year-round managing habitat, knowing the ground, protecting wildlife and, in this case, helping stop a wildfire from becoming far worse.
That side of the countryside deserves to be talked about more.
