Meet Rob Weight on Saturday July 4th!
Rob joined Hutton Art Society in 1990, originally looking for a social activity and a chance to improve his artistic skills. Although he had always enjoyed drawing, painting was something new to him.
His first attempts were in watercolours, and as he says, his technique was "completely wrong!" Thankfully, with encouragement and guidance from the chairman at the time and a fellow member, he soon found his feet and discovered a real enjoyment for painting.
Over the years, Rob has experimented with pastels, watercolours and acrylics, with acrylics becoming his favourite medium. He enjoys the flexibility they offer, especially when colours become a little "muddy" – particularly the greens, as his wife is always quick to point out! He prefers detailed, traditional-style painting rather than bold, loose work, and is always happy to pick up new tips from the Society's demonstration evenings.
Outside the art group, Rob was honoured to be asked by the local councillor to paint the names of the First World War fallen soldiers onto the poppies displayed on the lamp posts around Hutton village for Armistice Day in 2018.
Rob greatly admires the work of traditional artists such as Constable and Turner and also appreciates the Impressionists. Modern abstract art, however, isn't really for him!
For Rob, one of the greatest pleasures of Hutton Art Society is the weekly opportunity to paint, chat, learn, and enjoy the company of good friends. His artwork reflects his love of detail, traditional landscapes, and local scenes, as shown in these beautiful paintings.
