Graham Simpkin Planning (GSP) has won an appeal on behalf of their clients in Gravesham that now means that details of hard surfacing and external lighting are not required pursuant to an earlier planning permission to convert a building to offices. The decision also means that the business can use the site 8am to 6pm weekdays instead of 9am to 5pm.

The Inspector fully endorsed GSP's case, which will save their clients thousands of pounds by not having to make additional technical submissions.

Graham Simpkin Planning has been successful in seeking to quash a client's enforcement notice served by the London Borough of Bromley (the Council) on a site that employs 70 people.

After a one-day hearing, the Planning Inspector made clear that he was not satisfied that the identified site, nor the breach of planning identified in the notice accurately reflected the circumstances on site.

This was the third notice served and a further failed attempt to enforce against employment uses, which the Council's own needs assessement identifies as being appropriate for expansion. Only letters of support were received. This follows last month's costs award in connection with the second notice that the Council decided to withdraw after the deadline for evidence. The occupiers of the land are to claim costs from the Council in the region of Β£10,000.

We're absolutely thrilled to announce that for the second year in a row, Graham Simpkin Planning has been shortlisted for an award at the RTPI South East Awards.

The ceremony brings together planners from across the region for an evening celebrating the best projects, consultancies, and local authorities.

Now into our 40th year, we're excited to be shortlisted for best project for our work alongside Stone Town Council at Stone Recreation Ground that has since delivered a stunning new cafe and community building (Lizzies CafΓ© & Lounge Bar), a pump track, a flagship playground, outdoor gym, a Multi Use Games Area, running track, climbing apparatus, memorial garden and outdoor performance area, not forgetting the planting of a new meadow and 167 trees.

Graham Simpkin Planning worked on the masterplan and hybrid planning application. The project was funded by Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) receipts from Dartford Borough Council and Stone Town Council to the value of Β£4.3 million. It has been delivered in advance of the first occupations of an adjacent major allocated housing site for 700 homes.

Wish us luck for the 9th July!

Graham Simpkin Planning has had further success for a client at appeal for windfall housing within a brownfield site in Dartford Borough Council's Green Belt.

The appeal proposal involved the conversion of an existing building to a dwelling on what was agreed by the parties to be previously developed land.

The Inspector noted that whilst the cluster of dwellings and commercial uses along a 'B' classified highway was not served by any shops or essential services that nevertheless, the existing dwellings were an indication of a residential community and that a small contribution would be made to social sustainability and support of services in nearby settlements. Taking account of this and being on a bus route that links to nearby settlements, the Inspector concluded that, contrary to the Council's view, the site was not isolated within the countryside.

The Inspector also accepted Graham Simpkin Planning's arguments that there was no evidence to support removing permitted development rights from the proposed dwelling.
