I’ve got to know Carys now for over a year after being her mentor for 2024 when she reached the national final.
When Carys said she was going to enter this year I was so excited because I knew she would give it her all.
We’ve worked together through all the stages and it’s been my privilege to be Carys mentor.
Seeing her develop is amazing, through development and evolution of dishes, new tasks for the next round of the competition it’s been a real pleasure.
As a mentor there’s always going to be bumps in the road, the highs and lows of someone wanting to push themselves, moments of self doubt, worry and lack of confidence and even sometimes tears 🙃. But there’s also the amazing highs, achieving a skill they’ve never done before, cooking, time management and looking at developing their skills as a chef.
All we can do is help them to stay focused, channel that passion for creativity and drive them to be the best they can.
As a mentor we have to dedicate to the roll, give your time, your knowledge and most of all your passion because that will push them on , give them 100% it’s all the help they need.
gives the next generation of enthusiastic young people a chance to become part of a family, an opportunity to grow, achieve and inspire talent for the future.
Carys has grown as a person, a talented young chef and we’re proud as punch to have carys as part of our team .penarth
