January might not have the reputation for excitement, but we’re here to change that—with some show-stopping British and Irish cheeses. Yep, you heard right. Here’s our top 5 picks to kick off the year in style:

1. Double Gloucester with Grilled Olives
A classic you don’t see nearly enough. Made with raw milk from the Appleby family’s own herd, this traditional cheese is colored naturally with annatto, a distinctive South American thistle. Aged for 16 weeks, it’s rich, buttery, and delightfully tangy—a true crowd-pleaser.

2. St Ella with Turkish Delight
One of my all-time favourites! This standout goat cheese pairs brilliantly with Turkish Delight, proving that innovative pairings are what Pick & Cheese is all about. Fun, surprising, and utterly delicious.

3. Tunworth
A classic British Camembert, and if Raymond Blanc’s praise of “the best Camembert in the world” isn’t enough to convince you, nothing will. Silky, creamy, and utterly indulgent.

4. Renegade Monk
Not for the faint-hearted, this pungent washed-rind cheese is a bold treat. Made from organic cow’s milk in Somerset and washed in ale, it delivers punchy, complex flavours that stick with you.

5. Young Buck
I may be a little biased here, but this Northern Irish gem deserves the hype. Often likened to Stilton, it’s raw milk, hand-ladled, and aged 12–15 weeks. Rich, malty, and savoury, Young Buck hits all the right notes.

Meet Hardik. He cut his teeth at our Seven Dials restaurant, delivering exceptional hospitality. After brief stints at The Cheese Barge in Paddington, he made his way to Camden when we reopened in August.

Now our assistant manager, Hardik helps keep the belt rolling while making sure guests reap the rewards of his cheese knowledge.

Say hello next time you’re in Camden!

BLUE MONDAY…
Behind the scenes with .

Everyone’s eyes might be on a CERTAIN blue cheese this time of year, but we’ve got another absolute banger to share!

Mike’s Fancy Cheese— headed up by Mike Thomson is one of our favourite cheesemakers. Young Buck is a standout cheese inspired by ancient blue cheese recipes. Made with raw milk and a slower production process, the curds have more time to develop complex flavors resulting in a punchier cheese.

Aged for 12–15 weeks, Young Buck has a denser yet brittle paste compared to typical cheeses of its type. While it’s creamy, piquant, and bright when young, it develops a lingering malty aftertaste as it matures.

Right now, you can find it on the belt, perfectly paired with ®.

A few years back, we visited Belfast and spent some time with Mike, making cheese and chatting shop. Here are a few snapshots from our trip.
