That’s a wrap on Ruben Dawnay’s residency at Firestarter.

Thank you to everyone who came down, pulled up a chair, and got stuck into the grill tray. To Ruben, for the Aurox ribeye, the brisket croquettes, the peanut and chocolate pie, and for pushing the menu further every single week. And to our team behind the scenes who made every service happen.

The reviews, the feedback, the vibe in the room, we felt all of it.
Firestarter is taking a little break over spring and summer, but we’ll be back. Watch this space for when and where we’re firing up the grill next.

The walls just got louder.

New prints by — Newcastle-born graphic artist who made album covers for Beck, art-directed Kasabian’s Happenings, and has worked with Nike, Adidas, and MTV. His process starts with pallets of old books, cut up and reassembled by hand. Layers of collage, screen-printing, bold colour. The finished work has a pop art energy with a rave flyer edge, which makes sense when you know he grew up around Byker Wall.

We’ve chosen seven of his pieces for our walls. They’re icons. People who started something. The kind of people we had in mind when we named this place. They’re our cultural Firestarters. And they’re up now. Come see them.
