On Sunday 6th of September our friend Patxi Andres Schmid is taking reign of the kitchen for the day. Profits are going to support the people in Venezuela who have been devastated by recent earthquakes in the country so come hungry and thirsty. He’s making empanadas de chucho, skate, sofrito, fried plantain and Comte in a golden fried shell and other dishes inspired by Venezuelan classics. Bookings are live on OpenTable. Delectable things on the menu this week. The pavement’s packed, the aircon is pumping in the dining room and the beer’s freezing.

Exciting things in the works: aircon coming to the bar, a private garden for group dining (spring 27) and a bar next-door which I’ll probably open twice a week and serve a lot of offal an microwaved tapas from.

Likely my favourite special dinner we’ve done to date. Frita de pulpo was craftily elevated only slightly, it’s still a big indulgent plate of potato and octopus but the cooking was perfect and some herbs lifted the bar food into another stratosphere. Sobrasada and eggs same thing, what’s better than mopping sobrasada oil and egg yolk up with a bit of stale bread? I’ll tell ya what, nothing. The rare shiny dish of the night was the llom amb col. Very very occasionally I see this in the fridge in my favourite bars, it’s reminiscent of Balkan sarma, pork and pine nuts wrapped in cabbage leaves and braised. All washed down with bottles and bottles from Cati Ribot whilst sat on the pavement chatting the most perfect amount of waffle. Thanks to all who came thanks to in particular Kevin for lining this all up. It’s a new dawn for the wine fridge in Tollington’s.

Very excited to announce that are bringing one of our favourite wine makers Cati Ribot to London next week and we’re hosting for one night with a full wine list from Cati and some Mallorca bangers on the menu.

We met Cati for the first time March 25 at the winery, what started as a quick visit turned into a whole day. We cooked some tripe leftover from an event the night before and Cati’s mum made us a bowl of arroz brut, the first time I’d tried the dish and the inspiration for the seafood rice perfected by Haha.hmm.yes back in London.

Bookings are live on OpenTable, we’re opening an hour earlier than usual at 5 to allow for extra time drinking wine in the sunshine.

Quite late to the party in posting this on the grid but just a tiny note of humble thanks to all those that vote and contribute to the National Restaurant Awards. This is a list I have always looked up to and I suppose quietly hoped to make one day. Incredibly proud of our weird little fish bar just off the Stroud Green Road, it sums up London, it’s a mix of all creed and colour and it’s true to what it’s meant to be. I’m excited because we’re not slowing down, trying to add more and make more of it, at least by being open more and finding more space so we can offer some more exciting wine. Well done Harry and the kitchen and well done to Chloë and Raph for getting this place to where it is. Onwards 🚀

This Sunday we’re welcoming chef/patron of Bar Alimentar, Lisbon, into the kitchen. We’re open from 12, bookings are live on OpenTable, if we’re lucky (which we are) the sun will still be beating down on Stroud Green and the new Estrella Damm patio furniture will be spread down the pavement waiting for you to fill them. Аnja Maye on the artwork. Gracias.

Very excited to be cooking with my brother again, Robbie is coming over at the end of April for a long Sunday lunch in the fish bar. This time round we’re taking inspiration from the iconic Provincetown cookbook. If you’ve read Kitchen Confidential you’ll understand the significance of Provincetown on the forming of young Bourdain. Massachusetts is Robbie’s home state and that fantastic bit of sea now called Cape Cod is home to some of the best seafood in the Americas. It’s also where the Basques ventured to catch cod, it’s where America was first discovered and importantly left alone because the Basques were more interested in fish rather than colonisation, just like us. We’re doing a 6 hour lunch service where we hope to do Provincetown, Bourdain and the Basque nation proud. No pressure then. Bookings on OpenTable. Sunday 26th April 12-6pm. thank you for another brilliant artwork.

Robert Burns, in the 18th century, may well have sipped sherry with sailors in Cadiz thanks to the book trade and Scotland’s maritime trade with the Andalusian port. I’d like to think he ate crystal prawns and tuna in and around the drinking. We’ll celebrate this link I just found on Google with our own Burns supper this Sunday evening. 5-10, reservations are live on OpenTable. Swipe to see what maestro has up his sleeve for you all.

London’s premier snugglemuffin is back in London for the festivities and he’s greasing the fryers for another Thai takedown one last time before the year end. I’m incredibly excited to eat Sasha’s food again, you should book a table and join me in my excitement. Sexy snake art
