OKAN Brixton Village

OKAN Brixton Village OKAN is a tiny Okonomiyaki shop in the Brixton Village. At Okan we serve Osaka street food. Osaka is where I grew up. Each shop will have its own character.

An industrial, chaotic and colourful city filled with amazing food. Okonomiyaki is a savoury pancake, often served in tiny shops. Part of the joy of eating Okonomiyaki is seeing it being made right in front of you. Smelling it, hearing it sizzle and finally tasting it fresh off the griddle. I have been serving okonomiyaki from street stalls around Brick Lane since 2002. With Okan in Brixton I want

to introduce a new experience of okonomiyaki, served with a wide variety of toppings. I hope you feel a back street of Osaka in Brixton.

Since Moto was little, the importance of having a meal together with friends hasn't changed even slightly. Food always has been the strongest glue for our hearts and this philosophy is the power for OKAN to move forward.

Tamago Sando (egg sandwich), another summit of simplicity and supremacy of Japanese cooking is completed here. The creaminess of mayo, crispy bread, and delicious smell of eggs are harmonized in one bite for your perfect branch.

A new menu from OKAN's Kings Cross second branch; Ogura Toast. When Eastern and Western cultures meet, there will always be a masterpiece. Sweat red bean paste on crispy toast with melted butter and a hint of honey... this is gonna be a new addiction for your coziest branch mood.

Congrats Hainshin Tigers! 🐯The baseball team is truly OSAKAN’s heart, finally grabbed the Japan Series title for the first time in 38 years! The water of Dotombori River (where the fans celebrate achievements of the team) is boiling with passion, as hot as OKAN’s griddle. If you find our Okonomiyaki taste something special this week, there might be a reason.

Showa Era is the time Moto spent her childhood (Yes, the plump baby with her brother in the first photo is later going to be the owner of OKAN ), and also the time OKAN's taking you back to through our dishes. Now all of us, even the ones who never knew what Showa was like would taste "the taste of Showa" that Moto's mum once made for her, beyond time and space, can enjoy here in 2023's London.

“OKAN” is a slang for Mum in Osaka. Our dishes are owner Moto’s recreation of her mum’s taste when she used to eat since little. If you feel like you’re at home, or if you smell something nostalgic when you bite Okonomiyaki, that’s because OKAN’s root has always been and will always be mother’s love.

You might already know OKAN means mum. And for dad, we call "OTON". Meet Moto's oton, OKAN's great OTON. He was one of the very few sign writers who used their own hand as a tool in Japan. We have a lot of Japanese signs in our shops, but very few of them are hand-written. Meanwhile, our most iconic "おかん(OKAN)" sign is made by Moto's father, so that strong love of the family pours on all the Okonomiyaki.
