The book and writer featured in this article is amazing. How, how, had I not heard of her before. I am ashamed. Do yourself a kind favour, buy the book, sit comfortably and be prepared for an approximately three to four hour total immersion that you will not regret. You may not realise why, or what, but it is, now and again, I see, the reason books and writers exist. I have not stopped thinking about it for almost twenty four hours. Genius.

Riley has always skewered cruelty with shattering exactitude. What’s new in this story of two old friends in London is the delicacy she brings to moments of tenderness

I have rarely seen this put better - for me personally the last twenty years has been about stories - stories of supplies, growers, farmers, people toiling away against the odds because of a passion, an attempt at doing something different, going against the grain, against the odds, supporting the lives and well being of people, animals, the environment, and our story like that of everybody else I know that has run small independent (truly) restaurants like Pritchard & Ure , coffee shops, delicatessens, food stalls, and so much more has always been about this, never about just money, so a huge cheer for all of us that do this and all of you that support us - more than ever we need different, unique, outside the box thinking, to say no to the homogeneity, bland, profit seeking and ultimately destructive alternatives. We continue to do what we do with love and for love.

That special moment when a regular and charming customer who discovered you for your bread and butter business (not literally) and then just got, saw, sensed, what more you try to create and decided to donate to the greater whole - this is why we work so hard at the periphery of an excellent food and drink space - to add and discover what more it means to both be and visit a restaurant. It cannot be just to eat.
