Shóna Slemon & Shauna Jane Harris

About Paint and Words brings together friends and fellow Irish artists Shóna Slemon and Shauna Jane Harris, whose practices meet between storytelling, memory, ritual and the everyday.

Shóna draws on Catholic devotional imagery, Celtic paganism and contemporary ritual, looking at the objects we reach for when life becomes too much — the sacred, sentimental, pharmaceutical and absurd.
Shauna works through painting and text, pulling from Ireland’s storytelling tradition, unreliable memories and the objects of her past to explore identity, nostalgia and the strange ways we remember.

There is a shared instinct in their work to elevate the ordinary: a familiar object becomes a relic, a half-remembered story becomes folklore, a private ritual becomes something almost sacred.

As friends, their practices have developed alongside an ongoing exchange of stories, references and observations.
About Paint and Words brings that conversation into the same room — two distinct ways of looking at how we construct meaning from the things we keep, the stories we tell, and the things we choose to remember.

Residency #2 has been amazing!

A huge thank you to the amazing team behind it — Izzo Giovanni Emanuele Esposito — and to our incredible staff in the kitchen, on the floor, and behind the bar. Thank you for making it all happen. ❤️

This October, we’re off to Riviera Maya to meet someone very special and, hopefully, take another important step towards bringing the final vision of “Volcanic Kitchen & Wines” to life.

This time, we welcome the amazing Chef Daiyaan, formerly for Acme Fire Cult, DakaDaka & KILN - alongside Chef Emanuele, as we continue exploring the next evolution of Unlock inspired by influences from Mexico, Japan and Greece.

“Born in Napoli, we have always lived in the presence of one defining force: the volcano.
It shapes our strength, fuels our passion, and defines our character.
It is where we come from — the origin of our identity.
The volcanic earth enriches the vegetables we grow, influences the flavours we create, and inspires the fire and form of our ovens.

At the core of this journey are four elemental identities that define our cuisine:
Dough, the human gesture — where nature becomes culture.
Fire, the origin of transformation.
Lava, the raw force shaping the land.
Earth, the source of life and flavour.
