Arepa: It’s a type of corn bread traditionally from Venezuela and Colombia, and it’s naturally gluten-free! There are many varieties, as well as different techniques for treating the corn before it becomes dough and then bread. It can hold a wide range of fillings and can be eaten as either a main dish or a side, depending on the country or region.

The use of corn dates back to the Aztecs and spread throughout Central and South America. Mexico has its own equivalent called gorditas, and El Salvador has pupusas.

What a pleasure it was to have just watched the premiere of this Venezuelan film Sharing it with a British audience and showing a little bit of what Venezuela has gone through in recent years.
If you have the chance, don’t miss the next screening on 28 February in Manchester. And of course, we had to bring some salsa to enjoy the movie with some tortilla chips!
