💙 It is with the greatest sadness that I announce that Lizzy’s On The Green has closed its shutters for the final time. 💙
In the current financial climate, it has become increasingly difficult to continue the business in a way that aligns with the ethics I value so deeply. I wanted the café to be a community-focused, cohesive space—somewhere that offered something affordable for everyone. But with tightening margins and rising staff costs, it has become impossible for us to keep such a seasonal business running sustainably.
Today is bittersweet, filled with so much to look back on and celebrate. I have seen your babies born, your children graduate, your parents pass, and your furry friends come and go. It has been an honour to be welcomed and held by this very special community (especially through Covid), and to provide a safe space where fun and expression were encouraged every single day.
I have grown up with you all. I was just 28 years old when I opened the café; now, at 41, I am married and ready to embark on my next adventure.
To my team—from the Female Barista Mafia of 2013 all the way to today—you have been the best in the business. You have continually passed the baton on to the next generation of talented, kind, conscientious individuals who have held me up, just as I have held you. We have laughed and cried and screamed and loved and lost together. It has been a true pleasure.
I always said that if the world ended, all that would remain would be cockroaches, Cher, and Lizzy’s On The Green… but somewhere deep down, I knew Cher would outlive us all.
I will be arranging the café’s funeral at some point, so watch this space. I’d love to see as many faces there as possible—from customers to staff from the past 12 years.
And to the next crew who take on the site: give her the love she deserves.
It has been my honor. I will miss you all deeply.
Take care of yourselves and your community.
With love,
Lizzy x
