It was such an inspiration to meet these two warriors, Hannah and Samantha cofounders of , who are fighting to make life better for working parents in the UK and to help put a stop to parents, especially mums, being forced out of work.
Their event at the House of Commons was brim full of conversation, debate and ideas on how we can revise the system for parents. We’re really taking a bettering out here;
Many parents are leaving the workforce
Many parents taking roles roles below their skill level in exchange for flexibility
Many parents are practically paying to work
Many parents are having to abandon their careers
As a working mum with a child under 5 I’ve experience a few bumps along the road myself;
Made redundant early in my pregnancy.
Had to go job hunting while pregnant and felt like a fraud for not telling my new employers. I needed to pay the bills.
Plagued by fear of telling my new employer that I’m having a baby.
Made redundant while on Mat leave. TK was just a few months old :(
Survived on Maternity allowance because we couldn’t afford childcare at the time.
Started a business and then had to give it up due to not being able to find flexible and affordable childcare...It’s been a journey but thanks to organisations like The Herd and many many others the world of work is slowly changing for the good.
Keep going ! We’ve got your back.
A huge thank you to all the speakers for sharing their brilliant perspectives, ideas and advice. I was truly inspired and motivated to keep pushing with KindHaus. It warms my heart to know so many others are out there fighting this good fight for working parents; Ryan Hopkins , Liz Jeffery VP of People Experience and Jess Heagren CEO of
