To our wonderful guests, friends and neighbours,
We are incredibly sad to share the news that, after five wonderful years, Black Salt has had to stop trading due to circumstances entirely outside of our control.
During Covid, we were invited to open a restaurant by a business partner who had secured the property. Everything moved very quickly and we were under pressure to open as soon as possible, on the understanding that the lease would then be transferred into Black Saltโs name.
Despite years of chasing, legal work and repeated assurances that the transfer was in hand, it never happened.
More recently, we became aware of further issues surrounding the propertyโs financial and tenancy arrangements. This created significant legal and financial complications for Black Salt and left the business in an increasingly vulnerable position.
When we finally managed to speak directly with the landlord, we were again given written assurances that a new lease would be granted to us and believed we could finally move forward. Unfortunately, communication has since stopped and we have been unable to secure the lease needed to continue trading.
What makes this especially difficult is that, in what has been an incredibly challenging environment for hospitality, Black Salt had built something really special. Thanks to all of you, it was a business we believed in and wanted to keep investing in - from refurbishments and improvements to continuing to grow what we had created.
We received advice yesterday that we needed to close with immediate effect. We are so sorry to those of you who had reservations with us and we are doing our best to contact everyone individually.
Most upsetting of all is that our brilliant team will now be losing their jobs. We are incredibly proud of what we built and so grateful to everyone who supported Black Salt over the last five years.
Team Black Salt
