We often get asked why we have a lot of David Shrigly posters in our London cafes - especially as there doesn’t seem to be an obvious connection to Scandinavia.

Well, we just really like his work. The bright colours, the way he draws… And obviously the humour.

Also, did you know the actual Shrigly shop is in Copenhagen? Maybe that’s the connection, if we must have one. You can buy all his prints there (they ship EU/UK).

The crayfish season is the perfect opportunity to host one of those last outdoor parties before the colder autumn evenings begin. We just had our last shipment of crayfish delivered into our warehouse. Super simple as these are already cooked: simply defrost and serve (do not rinse; that’s where the taste is).

If you’re invited to a Crayfish party, here’s a little clip about how to peel a crayfish. It’s not that hard: break off the claws, remove the head and peel like you would a big prawn. To get the meat out of the claws, tease them loose with a bit of a wiggle and the meat should come out when you pull slowly.

Here’s what to expect at a Swedish crayfish party (others may vary):

🦞 Lots of slurping (everyone does it - just join in. You want to tasty dill flavoured brine).
🦞 Bibs and hats. Everyone’s wearing them - you will, too.
🦞 There is likely to be shots of aquavit. If you’re not accustomed, be aware it’s very strong. It often gets you intoxicated from the waist down first. This is your warning.
🦞 There will be singing. Yes, in Swedish. Lots of it.
🦞 Peeling crayfish is fiddly work - make sure you fill up on some of the side dishes too or you may find the aquavit a little too effective too early on.

Ends today online (23/8/26): Our weekend Lonkero bonanza in our online shop is in full swing. Check the link in profile to get the details, but basically, this Finnish gin-in-a-tin that is the darling tipple of our Finnish friends is on special online this weekend (full cases). But you need to be super duper quick because stock is limited.

Originally developed for the 1952 Olympics, this ready to drink grapefruit deliciousness quickly became a Finnish favourite. Nowadays it’s an essential part of Finnish social life, enjoyed at lakeside saunas, summer cottages, and celebrations.

We’ve got grapefruit, cranberry, orange and pineapple.
