Artist Spotlight: Nettie Wakefield ✏️

now proudly houses this amazing triptych of artwork produced infront of the public during Nettie's residency at Banksy’s Dismaland in 2015 🐭 A performance piece set up in a diorama of a street-side cartoonist but with a twist of firstly, a highly detailed style and secondly...not the face ✨

Reverse portraits represent to Nettie, a sense of bewilderment and disengagement within an environment. By disassociating a potent element of a figure, detachment becomes tangible - we allow ourselves to develop intrigue and explore the mystery surrounding the subject whilst being positioned in an almost intimate place as we can see what the subject cannot see themselves 💭

Nettie's work is described as creatively eccentric by creating parallels between the sitter and the viewer themselves as "everything we see hides another thing” (Magritte) 💫
