Opening its doors at 40 Jermyn Street in December 1969, Tramp has been one of the most exclusive private clubs ever since, outlasting many of London's popular haunts of the past. Its forerunner, Dolly's, located at 57 Jermyn Street, was a trial run for the formula that became the ethos of Tramp: the place to be, the place to be seen, and the place for anyone who is anyone to party from dusk till dawn.
Founded by Oscar Lerman, Bill Ofner and Johnny Gold, Tramp was named from an unlikely source. It was whilst watching a documentary about Charlie Chaplin's famous character, The Little Tramp, when the narrator remarked that, "this was the greatest Tramp of all". The statement struck a chord with the founders and provided their venue with the perfect name.
The discreet entrance has seen the comings and goings of everyone from Frank Sinatra and the Beatles, a multitude of rock gods and goddesses, the world's royalty, Hollywood's major players and the highest echelons of international business and society. Often raucous and always fun, it's no surprise that Tramp fast became London's favourite place to misbehave.
Today David Fleming is the General Manager and at the helm of the establishment, having taken over the reins from his renowned predecessors Brian Crawford and Guido Guida. With his knowledge and expertise, David is the epitome of Tramp and continues to strive to bring its members a high level of discreet service coupled with a family feeling of ‘home from home’.
