Maronesa vaca velha coming to Soho.

A native breed from the Serra do Marão, high in the mountains of Trás-os-Montes. The beef comes from mature cows, given years to deepen in flavour.

Max and Chef Neuza Leal visited André and João at Carnes Irmãos Unidos to see how the cattle are raised. Bar Douro Soho is the first restaurant in the UK to import and serve it.

In 2013, our founder Max spent eight months pouring port at a pop-up on Greek Street. It’s where the idea for Bar Douro was born. This November, we’re back, this time at number 10.

Port has always been part of the story at Bar Douro, not least through our founder Max Graham’s family connection to the Douro and Churchill's, founded by his father, Johnny Graham, in 1981.

Growing up with the Douro as part of family life, its w**es, people and traditions have naturally shaped Max’s connection to Portugal and the story of Bar Douro.
