Wrexham's hospitality scene is something to be proud of. From our pubs and cafés to our restaurants and hotels, these are the places that welcome visitors, give our streets life, and create jobs right across the county borough.

But right now, that scene is under real pressure. Rising costs are forcing venues to change what they offer, cut back, or close their doors altogether, and every one we lose chips away at what makes Wrexham a place people want to visit and spend time in.

Here's something worth knowing: in the UK we pay 20% VAT on hospitality, one of the highest rates in Europe. In France, Spain and Italy it's 10%. In Germany, just 7%. Our local businesses are competing on a deeply uneven playing field.

That's why This Is Wrecsam is backing the VATsTheProblem campaign, led by chef and publican Tom Kerridge, calling for a fair 10% VAT rate for hospitality. A lower rate would protect local jobs, support the businesses at the heart of our visitor economy, and help secure a stronger future for the places we all love.

Whether you're a visitor, a local, or run a business yourself, please take 30 seconds to add your name. 👇

❤️ A very special day at Pontcysyllte Chapel Tearoom ❤️yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming Beryl Leach and Dennis Williams for a truly heartwarming reunion.

Beryl (née Mudd) was evacuated from Liverpool to this area during the Second World War and lived at Bridge End Cottage, on the Trevor side of the aqueduct. During her time here she attended Fron School.

Dennis remembered Beryl and her sister from those school days — they were all in the same class.

Over coffee and conversation at the tearoom, memories came flooding back before the pair revisited places that meant so much to Beryl, including the lift bridge in Fron and her old school.

It was a privilege to host such a touching reunion and to see old memories brought back to life after so many years. The smiles said it all 💕
Thanks to Keith Sinclair for organising the reunion.
Den is the uncle of our very own Lynne Nash😊
Any history of Bridge End cottage is most welcome, please contact Keith
My friend Katherine Christabel Baxter lived there from 1965 , it would be interesting to know who lived there between the dates 1945-1965
