A bit of a long one but we felt we needed to show our appreciation.
Being named the best pub in Merseyside by Liverpool Echo readers fills us with so much pride and happiness.
We are proud of Bootle, a town that is on the up after being nominated for town of culture, the recent 5 day salt and tar music festival which brought acts like Nile Rodgers, The Waterboys, The Saw Doctors and Billy Ocean to the town and now the best pub in merseyside is in Bootle.
We will continue to always champion Bootle and hope to create a pub the people are proud of.
The Jawbone Tavern is a special place. When we took over it in September 2024 we were introduced to regulars who had been drinking there since the 70s. We knew then that the pub was special and that it would always be their pub rather than ours and we were just lucky enough to put the key in the door each day.
The community spirit in the Jawbone is something I have never experienced anywhere else. When you walk through the doors it is like walking into your home.
You can see the Jawbone over 40s football team in there every saturday with their committee member Gary selling the spot the ball for £1 a go to raise funds for the club.
We love our 3 darts teams competing in the dart lanes in the new sports bar upstairs.
We are proud that we have not increased prices on food since taking over 2 years ago despite a big jump in food wholesale prices, utility costs and wage increases. You can still get a burger, onion rings, chips and side salad for £7.50.
Eating out is a small luxury and keeping it as accessible to as many people as possible during the cost of living crisis is important to us.
Last but not least a big thankyou to all the staff starting with Dave the manager who started work as a pot wash in the Jawbone 50 years ago.
He knows the pub inside out and the place would not be the same without him.
Thankyou to all the barstaff Simon, Ange, Vicky, Renee, Carly, Elle, Lilly, Kelly and chefs Phil and Alex.
The Echo mentioned to us the main reason why people voted was down to friendly staff.
We are very proud of you all.
This pub is Bootles oldest pub and has survived 2 world wars, 5 pandemics, cost of living crisis's and is still going strong, heres to many more and better years to come for everyone.
