Ma Boyle's Alehouse & Eatery A historic pub and bistro dating back to 1860 situated in Liverpool docklands and commercial district.
(1275)

The home of the renowned Liverpool 'Scouse' dish, and famous for our cocktails, roasts, brunches and live jazz every Fri and Sat. 📺📰 PR enquiries – [email protected]

Ma Boyle's Alehouse & Eatery is a historic public house which first opened it's doors in 1870. With the opening of Old Hall Street train station, Ma had to leave the former oyster bar and move down the road to Tower Garden in 1974. No longer an oyster bar but still with some of the original furnishings from the Old Hall Street venue; Ma Boyle's now hosts jazz nights, pub quiz, bottomless prosecco brunch - as well as private hire for events and parties. An extensive range of rums, cask ales and other boozy delights await, alongside our food menu; inclusive of English classics, American-style burgers and Italian sharing platters. Whether it's lunch with the kiddies, an after-work pint or a dance to the live music - Ma Boyle's has it all, and we hope to see you soon!

Putting one Scouse Pie through with spring onion mash, remembering that the other table wants chunky chips, adding the late extra round... Our staff works hard, but they are naturals at making you feel welcome. Who was your server last time and how was the experience?

Parrjazz has made it really easy to choose what night to devote to a drink at Ma Boyle's. 🎷🎶🍸

Mambo Collective are bringing the Latin Jazz Social Club on Friday 16 October from 7:30pm, then Neil Yates takes over on Saturday 17 October from 8pm. You can pick one, obviously. We just don’t see why you would.

Did you know? Coffee has a longer claim on the Ma Boyle’s name than most people realise. The story goes back to around 1860–70, when Kay Boyle ran the original place as a coffee shop, before it became an oyster bar serving Liverpool’s fruit and cotton traders.

Oktoberfest has started taking over Liverpool, with steins and Oompah bands appearing around the city. The Guinness taps are on. Nobody needs to own lederhosen to join in. 😂 Are you using Oktoberfest to try a German l***r, or staying loyal to Guinness?

The word “Scouse” comes from lobscouse, and it is believed to have reached Liverpool through the international sailors working its docks, then stayed so firmly rooted in local kitchens that it eventually gave the city’s people their name.

Ma Boyle’s has served Scouse for decades, only minutes from the area where those sailors first brought the dish into the city. Our menu gives you more than one way to order it, but whatever version you pick, you’re getting a very Liverpool meal, that's for sure.

How do you order yours?

That sounds about right. We’ll work out who was serving this table and make sure the praise reaches her - even if the cocktail menu has made the witness statement slightly unreliable. 😂 Has somebody from our team made your visit recently? Tell us who; we want to make sure they hear it. ❤️
