A local library. A county-wide collection. ๐Ÿ’ช

As part of our celebrations marking 130 years of Liskeard Library and three years of Real Ideas working in partnership with Cornwall Library Service, we're continuing our series of conversations exploring the role of libraries and the partnership between & .

In this conversation, Ed Hart, Venue & Partnership Lead for Real Ideas, and Sarah Marsh, Library & Outreach Co-ordinator for Cornwall Library Service, discuss one of the library's most powerful tools: the ability to reserve books and other items from across the Cornwall Libraries network and have them delivered to your local library.

Whether you're searching for a bestselling novel, a niche non-fiction title, large print books, audiobooks, sheet music or even a blood pressure monitor, your library card opens the door to far more than what's on the shelves in front of you.

Throughout September, we'll be sharing more conversations about:

๐Ÿ“– The role of libraries as welcoming community spaces
๐Ÿ“š Access to books, resources and opportunities through Cornwall Library Service
๐Ÿ›๏ธ The story of library devolution in Cornwall
๐Ÿ’ก The partnership between Cornwall Library Service and Real Ideas
๐Ÿ”จ The restoration and reimagining of Liskeard Library
๐Ÿ’› The people, partnerships and projects that have shaped the library over the last three years

For 130 years, Liskeard Library has connected people with knowledge, ideas and opportunities. Thanks to Cornwall Library Service and its county-wide network, that access extends far beyond the walls of the building itself.

Have you ever reserved a book through the library service? Let us know what you've discovered. ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ‘‡

๐ŸŽ‰ We're incredibly proud to be nominated for Best Food & Beverage at the LTA Annual Gala Business Awards! ๐ŸŽ‰

Our cafรฉ has grown into a true community hub in the heart of Liskeard, serving fresh, homemade food made with locally sourced ingredients from Cornish suppliers. Every cup of coffee, every lunch, and every visit helps support something much bigger.

As an independently run cafรฉ within Liskeard Library, operated by Real Ideas CIC, we're proud to pay our team the Real Living Wage and invest in local people and businesses.

Most importantly, without our cafรฉ and event income, we simply couldn't keep our beautiful Grade II listed building open as a thriving library and community space. Every penny of profit is reinvested into community projects, activities, and opportunities that benefit local people.

If you've enjoyed a coffee with us, attended an event, met friends here, or simply believe in supporting community spaces, we'd be so grateful for your vote. ๐Ÿ’›

Vote for us and help us continue making a difference in Liskeard.

๐ŸŒฟ Charms, Curses and Cornish Legends

We're delighted to be welcoming Keith Wallis The Piskie Trap back to Liskeard Library for another fascinating dive into Cornwall's darker folklore.

This time, Keith explores a world of charms and cures, whispered warnings, ill-wishing, and the ever-present fear of the evil eye. Across Cornwall, tales of cunning folk, healers and suspected witches have lingered for generations, passed from doorstep to doorstep and carried on the wind across moors and villages.

In Witchcraft in Cornwall: Charms & Curses, Keith uncovers the beliefs, stories and strange traditions that once sat just beneath everyday life.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Dinner before the talk is available to book
๐Ÿท Our bar will be open throughout the evening
๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ Advance booking recommended

Those familiar with tickets for Keith's previous talks will know they have a habit of disappearing quickly...

Perhaps it's best not to wait too long. ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿ“š

๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’› What makes a library more than just a place to borrow books?

As part of our celebrations marking 130 years of Liskeard Library and three years of Real Ideas working in partnership with Cornwall Library Service, we're sharing a series of conversations exploring the role libraries and the partnership between Real Ideas Organisation & Cornwall Libraries

In this first conversation, Venue & Partnership Lead for Real Ideas, Ed Hart, and Library & Outreach Co-ordinator for Cornwall Library Service, Sarah Marsh discuss the idea of libraries as third spaces. Places that aren't home or work, but somewhere people can connect, learn, create, belong and simply spend time.

For 130 years, people have come through the doors of Liskeard Library for books, ideas, support, friendship and opportunity. While the library has changed over the years, its importance as a shared community space remains as relevant as ever.

Throughout September, we'll be sharing more conversations about:

๐Ÿ“– The role of libraries as welcoming community spaces
๐Ÿค Why libraries matter beyond books
๐Ÿ›๏ธ The story of library devolution in Cornwall
๐Ÿ’ก The fantastic work of Cornwall Library Service and the opportunities it creates
๐Ÿ”จ The restoration and reimagining of Liskeard Library
๐Ÿ’› The people, partnerships and projects that have shaped the library over the last three years

Together, Cornwall Library Service and Real Ideas continue a story that began in 1896: creating opportunities for people to learn, discover and connect.

What does Liskeard Library mean to you? We'd love to hear your story. ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ‘‡
