📍 Venue Spotlight: Liskeard Library

A space with books and coffee under one roof and I’m already sold ☕📚 But Liskeard Library was a new find for me, and it really is so much more than “just a library” (and I say that as someone who loves libraries!).

Liskeard Library is much more than somewhere to borrow books - it’s a vibrant community hub blending books, learning, creativity, co-working and connection, all with such a warm local welcome.

Their café is wonderful, and I can of course vouch for the coffee. But there are also cakes and light lunches made using ingredients from local suppliers. And they have a dedicated children’s menu 💚

And the events! I thought coffee and books were the pinnacle… but apparently not 😂 From quizzes and wine tastings to open mic nights and craft markets, alongside Rhymetime sessions and child health drop-in clinics, theres even a bank!! There really is something for everyone.

It’s such a welcoming community space with so many opportunities for families and people of all ages - definitely worth a visit!

✨️ Thursday Night Open Mic Headliner!

Really pleased to have Ceri Baker joining us for Live & Later next Thursday with the theme of "Freedom". Ceri is a multi–slam winning poet bringing powerful, honest spoken word to the night.

Ceri Baker's 'Dead Hopeful Love (and sometimes ragey stuff)' brings us a hot held mess of spoken word human tapas.

A poetry, feast of what it feels like to collectively navigate this mad time of unknowns, change, heat, grief, trying to feel everything yet remain hopeful. Ceri Baker combines, humour, poetry, shruti, and other chaotic stuff she might come up with.

Pickaxes and Pixels! ⛏️🎮

Over May Half Term we had Cornwall Young Archaeology Club members come in on day 2 of their project exploring Cornwall's mining heritage and bringing it to life through digital technology.

The young archaeologists headed to Phoenix United Mine on Bodmin Moor on day 1 to explore the landscape with Iain Rowe Cornwall National Landscape and Lesley Strong Cornish Mining World Heritage Site Where they identified archaeological features, surveyed historic buildings, and discovered how people lived and worked in Cornwall's mining past.

They then moved to the Liskeard Library where they put their findings into action! Using a Minecraft world built in Cornwall's image by our Digital Facilitator, Mark Blake, they recreated mining buildings and machinery. Including reconstruction of engine houses and beam engines!

This event couldn't have occurred without a grant awarded by Cornwall National Landscape and The National Lottery Heritage Fund for their Natural Beauty and the Beast project.
