While some people have suggested that our reasons for closing are fabricated, what you're really saying is that my staff lied to me.
My staff and I are deeply disappointed by comments suggesting this incident never happened. The PSNI attended, and we will be appealing for assistance in identifying this person in due course.
Ask yourself this: as a small, independently owned business, why would we voluntarily close our doors? We rely on our customers every day to help cover our wages, rent, rates, utilities, and other operating costs. Closing, even for half a day, has a significant financial impact on our business.
I stand by my staff. Their safety and wellbeing will always come first. I have attended mamy demonstrations myself and fully understand that people have concerns and frustrations that they wish to express. However, throughout those demonstrations, I have also supported local businesses and recognised the importance of protecting our local economy.
There is a world of difference between peaceful protest and intimidating local workers. Unfortunately, while everyone had conducted themselves respectfully on Tuesday night, one individual chose to direct their anger towards local businesses on Wednesday afternoon instead.
We are a local business, employing local people, serving our local community. We are not the enemy.
Thank you to everyone who has shown support and understanding during what has been a difficult situation for our staff.
