A full tray of cleaned up Horseshoes, now ready to use for a variety of artwork projects.
A lot of people only see the finished piece of art, they don’t realise the lengthy processes that are sometimes required to produce the raw materials needed.
These horseshoes were soaked in a citric acid bath for 16 hours overnight. The citric acid reacts with the heavily rusted surface of the metal and the bath turns a dark orange colour.
If anyone wants to remove rust from steel…..
600g of citric acid crystals added to 12 litres of hot water….basically 50g per litre of water!!!
The citric acid gets to work straight away and you will see small bubbles rising up to the bath surface from the metal.

These will be available this Saturday (13th June) at the artisan market at Leadenham house.
We are open 10am to 3pm.
There will be over 50 stalls, covering a wide range of artisan makers and there will also be food and drinks available.
