Tomorrow is our last day of trading as The Pantry Cafe. I’ve been trying to find the right words, but I’m not sure they’ll ever quite be enough. When I opened The Pantry, I was a new mum who simply needed a village. I hoped to create somewhere warm and welcoming, but I never imagined the village would find me. Leyland, you have carried us through five incredible years. You’ve celebrated with us, cried with us, trusted us with your babies, your stories, your friendships and your lives. You’ve shown me what community really means. The people of this town are everything I hoped they were - hardworking, kind, resilient, humble and quietly generous. You don’t always shout about the good you do, but I’ve had the privilege of seeing it every single day. To every customer who became a friend, to every baby who grew up in our corner of the café, to every book club, breastfeeding group, coffee morning and conversation that made someone feel a little less alone… thank you. And to my incredible team… The Pantry became what it did because of you. Your kindness, care and ability to make everyone feel welcome has been the heart of this place. I will never be able to thank you enough. I don’t know whether we’ve changed Leyland, but I know Leyland has changed me. If, over the last five years, The Pantry has made even one person feel seen, welcome or a little less alone, then it has been everything I hoped it would be. Tomorrow we close this chapter, but this isn’t the end. It’s simply time for me to pass the baton to the amazing Neighbourhood team who I know are going to do an incredible job moving forward, bringing more “Pantry energy” to Leyland in their very own way. Hi everyone, it’s Steven Nicholson the very luck fella who’s married to Holly (from The Pantry). I need your help. Holly doesn’t know I’m doing this but I’ve hijacked the socials to ask for a favour. I’ve had the pleasure of listening to daily stories from the cafe. Beautiful moments and kind words shared. I wish I had written them down. That’s where you come in – I would love to hear about your favourite moment from your time at The Pantry 1.0, as I would like to make sure Holly always remembers what the last 5 years of blood, sweat and tears has achieved and what the cafe has meant to people. Five Years. One Community. A New Chapter. 💛🐝✌🏻

I want you to hear this from me first.

This wasn’t an easy decision. But it’s the right one, and it’s the right time. After five years, I’m stepping away from The Pantry. Our last day with me behind the counter is Wednesday 22nd July. After that, this little café passes to Charlotte and Dave, who’ll be giving it a short refresh before opening the doors as the new Neighbourhood @ The Pantry. A new name over the door, and everything that mattered still behind it.

Five years ago I set out to build a café. What you helped me build was a community.

I wanted somewhere people felt welcome exactly as they were — where parents never had to apologise for noisy children, friendships started over coffee, and kindness mattered as much as what was on the menu. I hoped people would come. I never imagined this. Your celebrations, your milestones, your ordinary Tuesday mornings, twenty mums and their babies filling every seat on a Thursday. Most of you stopped being customers a long time ago.

None of it would have happened without Steven, who has been behind every early morning, every late night and every challenge along the way. And none of it would have been possible without my team — thank you for your hard work, your kindness and your loyalty, and for caring about this place as much as I have. You each left your mark on it.

Now it’s time for me to have a little more of the life I’ve spent five years encouraging everyone else to make time for.

I waited for the right people. I found them.

Many of you will already know them as the owners of the wonderful Neighbourhood cafés in Preston and right here in Leyland. But Charlotte and Dave aren’t just taking over — they’re friends, and they are the only people I could have handed this to. From the moment we met it was clear we share the same belief: that people come first. They’ll bring their own ideas and their own name, and they’ll look after what matters. I’ve spent five years protecting how this place feels. I’m not worried about it for a second.

Please come and see me before the 22nd, so I can thank you properly.

I always said The Pantry was never really about coffee. It was about people. Thank you for proving me right.

And if there’s one thing I hope you remember, it isn’t the coffee or the cakes. It’s how you felt when you walked through the door.
