LOCAL NEWS 🗞️ | Free Bus Travel for Children Announced by Hereford Operator. 🚌

Families across Herefordshire are set to benefit from free bus travel for children throughout August after Hereford-based coach and bus operator Sargeants confirmed it will take part in a new government-backed scheme.

In a social media announcement, Sargeants said children aged between 5 and 15 will be able to travel free of charge from 1 August to 31 August 2026 on eligible bus journeys in England.

The offer forms part of the Department for Transport's Great British Summer Savings initiative, which aims to help families reduce the cost of travel during the school holidays.

The national scheme allows eligible children to travel free on participating local bus services across England throughout August.

Sargeants says the offer applies to:

▪️ Journeys made entirely within England.
▪️ Cross-border journeys that start in England and finish in Wales.

However, journeys starting in Wales will not qualify for the free travel offer, with normal fares applying.

The initiative is expected to make summer days out more affordable for families travelling to attractions, shopping centres and tourist destinations across the region.

Parents are advised to check with Sargeants before travelling if they are unsure whether a particular service is included in the promotion or if any route-specific exclusions apply.

The free travel scheme runs from 1 August until 31 August 2026.
